I think Nina Gerber is amazing, and as I mentioned in my own review of Lucy's Berkeley, CA show, Nina's accompaniment gives tremendous added depth and color to Lucy's songs. I first saw Nina backing Nanci Griffith at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco in about 1985 and have been extremely impressed every time I've seen her. Bob ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2001 21:59:38 EST From: Pfleary@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] songs i can't stop mainlining Yes, Libby (et. al.)I get addicted to songs all the time. Last spring when Gorka's new album came out I had to listen to Oh Abraham at least three to four times a day. After FRFF this summer, I could not get Tanglewood Tree out of my head and subsequently purchased the CD. When I got Drum Hat Buddha it was Ordinary Town (great minds think alike sheila). A couple of weeks ago it was Greg Brown's Rexroth's Daughter. I woke up with Play the Greed in my head a few mornings this week and listened to that quite a few times. Currently, I do not have a song like this, but am now very curious to see what the next one will be. Peter (who still loves and listens to all the songs mentioned above, just not feeling that jones) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2001 20:15:30 -0800 (PST) From: Deb Woodell Subject: Re: [lucy-list] latest addictions Libby inquired, > Anyone else have songs that just catch ya for a > while... and you > can't let go... until the next one comes along?? You bet! A couple songs off the last Kasey Chambers cd did that for me. And besides song "addiction," I am blessed (plagued?) with having a jukebox in my head, and when I hear a certain phrase or even a word, a song starts up in my mind and then plays and plays, until the next phrase jogs another memory. Deb (slowly emerging from the 24/7 nursing stint for my partner Fran, who had foot tendon surgery 8 days ago) ===== You can take the rock band away from the girl and think you've tamed her. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" It is the most beautiful thing, and as soon as I got to that track, I kept it on repeat for the hour-ride home tonight, and then stuck it in my computer, where it's STILL playing now. At some point, the remaining ten tracks deserve to be heard, but I can't move on from this song!!! I'm assuming that Patty Romanoff will have this up on http://www.bulletproofstore.com/ soon, but if not, and you're interested in getting this (it's a 15-track CD, with K&N, Mark Erelli, Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Erin McKeown, Richard Shindell and many, many others, singing originals or interpretations of traditional favorites), e-mail or call her (contact info is on the website). I loved Dave's song too, though it didn't get a repeat tonight!! G-d, this sounded an awful lot like a commercial, but I know it's a brand new disk, and it deserves to be announced!! Hmm, Lucy content. I left the obligatory baked goods for Lucy in Concord, MA, tonight, but wasn't able to attend the show!! I'm sure I missed a great one.
