Subject: [lucy-list] Wayfaring Strangers Hi All, Received Wayfaring Strangers "Shifting Sands of Time" in the mail today (along with the truly amazing Out There Live - Dar). The Wayfaring Strangers are a mini supergroup with Matt Glaser, Jennifer Kimball, Tony Trischka, etc. Lucy does main vocals on three songs - High on a Mountain, Memories of You, and Wayfaring Stranger. I've always loved hearing Lucy sing Wayfaring Stranger, now to hear a recording of it, backed by such good musicianship, is a marvel. This is a really nice cd. Looking forward to seeing Lucy again in Dayton on Saturday night. Help me out here and then I will see if I want to change what I have been doing. By the way, did anyone see The McNeil News Hour last night? I caught the re-broadcast at Midnight. That Juliette Kayyem of Harvard University is a Lucy "ringer" let me tell you! The face, the eyes, the hair, the lipstick shade, the voice, and the sharp intellect applied to social issues. It was eerie! It was like Lucy's twin sister! She was taking a liberal position on the issue of "racial profiling" in regards to the escalation of police activity defending "the home front", specifically airline security. She was smart and pleasant....sorta like another brunette we know. ETimothy http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/terrorism/july-dec01/racial_profile.html The picture at this link does not do her justice. It can however give you a feel for the high level of discourse on this particular show. To compare Lucy and Ms. Kayyem, you'd really need to see a moving picture of her. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2001 10:38:21 -0400 (EDT) From: "Elizabeth (Libby) Wiebel" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Juliette Kayyam and "By Way of Sorrow" On Thu, 27 Sep 2001, Timothy Bruce wrote: > Libby wrote yesterday: > >>>The "corrected" lyrics for "By Way of Sorrow"... on the second time > through the "refrain" part... No I was merely probing the list to see if anyone else had seen her on PBS last night. The similarities were striking...I think any Lucy fan would have picked up on it. I know what you mean Timothy about "ringers" that resemble Lucy. There is a venue in south NJ in West Creek-(Methodist Church)-The promoters are Norm and Merianne Haug. I saw Lucy there last year. I was speaking with Rick before the show and asked him to introduce me to Merianne. She helped me with directions. He told me Merianne looked like Lucy's sister. Boy, was he right!!! I was surprised to see Lucy talking to audience members in their seats before the show. Asked Rick-"What is Lucy doing?". Rick's response--Donna, that is Merianne. Twin sisters for sure!!! ESD sounds okay for first time of listening. I did'nt find it as easily accessible as I did Ten Year Night but there again it all depends on whatever mood you are in at the time of listening. I've been listening to so much new music lately that I don't get madly overexcited, unless it is something which has an obviously different sound from something I have heard previously, just like when I first heard Lucy a few years ago. I'll give it another play over the weekend to see if it gives me a different opinion. Where and when is Dar coming to Glasgow, Donald? Are you going Walter and Jenny?
