The Falling Star incident happened - I was there. At the 2000 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons, CO, Nanci came out kind of tense already. (I'd heard later that the airline had lost some luggage and some instruments.) Then, while she was describing "Traveling Through this Part of You" a song about her recent trip to Viet Nam and her ex-husband (a vet) (Eric Taylor), there was a shooting star. The audience oohed at the same time and then laughed at the collective "ooh." Nanci thought we were laughing at her and got angry. She yelled at us. She cried. She cut short her set. You could see Lucy and others who were singing with her just dumbfounded. It was a surreal experience and she turned off a lot of fans that night. I'm a huge Nanci fan - I've seen her dozens of times and even flew to Michigan in the dead of winter to see her at a benefit for the Ark. The Nanci that night in Lyons was not the Nanci I'd seen before. It was all anyone could talk about for the rest of the festival. susan in oakland susankrauss@earthlink.net ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Sep 2001 14:03:14 EDT From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] that waiting game renee..that batgirl.. has the setlist and the notes i can tell you WHO i saw.. what i saw.. what lucy Wore leather.. pleather pants... and I Quote" brown is the new black" lucy this is NY.. black is our city dress code.. lets ask MOM for her take.. if MA Kaplansky says Brown.. brown it shall be lucy looked good.. humidity and the rain. gave her a great hair day she had the FRFF shows.. not the red ones. her calvin jacket the one she bought in mass in spring.. and a camisole tee in black her band.. new ben butler.. on guitar. ben.. wittman on drums ben lincoln shliffer ( from the shindell band and buddy miller band) Lucy needs a COOL band name.. like spyboy.. only not crybaby... lucy was cool as a cucumber til she sweat.. and she was in great voice she sang more than i have seen her.. and it was amazing with his new BEN band.. ben on drums.. is not as adventureous as brady blades and has no chinese teehirt.. ben is almost buddy and lincoln is a ben.. the set list. will wait the rest will wait.. we need to rest.. we are all on three darn hours.. and i am fading into my chair... sharon that is all i remember ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Sep 2001 14:35:27 EDT From: MickRib@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Re: ESD Bravo! Hehe...lets just say i think my neighbors are considering moving out even if it breaks their lease. I'm still shaking writing this. I tried to explain to a friend why this was such a big deal to me by telling her --How would you feel if Madonna ( her favorite singer) emailed you ...umm yeah that's how i feel right now. I once saw Nanci Griffith (Iris DeMent opening) in Boston some years ago. Based on that concert, her behavior in Lyons does not surprise me. I thought she was -shall we say- prickly & felt that I didn't care that much for the person who had penned some songs that I did like. I'd jump at the chance to see the likes of Iris or Lucy but would have to take a pass on Nanci.
