Don't go by looks, brand name or anything else. Go by feel and sound. If you're just learning, feel is most important. You have to be able to get your hand around the neck comfortably to learn how to play. Obviously, if you're just learning, that's going to be tough. If you don't know chords or fingering, you're kind of in the dark, but if it hurts your hand you're not going to play it so often. If you want to learn, you need to play every day. This is how Zappa said he started playing Gibson SGs. He picked one up and it felt right. Everyone else was telling him -- buy a Fender, but he tried the Fenders and they didn't fit him as well as the SGs. Hope this helps. - -- Jay "Injustice is relatively easy to bear; what stings is justice." - --H.L.
