WHO..Lucy kaplansky i saw hey lucy whatcha doing here.. you dont have to be here til tomorrow.. she said.. i want to be here.. and it was evident that she wanted to she walked the midway looking for food for herself..and was stopped by lots of fans who spoke to her about their cities and seeing her in concert.. she stopped to chat wiht me and gail cohen about the toronto show where ALL her relatives showed up and bagels.. as for lucys set.. i wasnt there. therefore i assume there was NO yelling of YO Lucy.. or any screaming for 10 year night or any public display of foolishness benay loaned me her set list.. Anyway...Lucy, in black pants and a white top, sang: Angels Rejoiced Written on the Back of His Hand Don't Mind Me (with "no movie but an upbeat song" intro) One Good Reason Ten Year Night (with John Gorka) By Way of Sorrow (with John Gorka) Song for Molly (with John Gorka) End of the Day (she fumbled the words on this one briefly, though she recovered quickly...unusual to see Lucy stumble at all, but of course only endearing) Turn the Lights Back On Swimming Song Later she did several songs with John Gorka in his set..."The Gypsy Life," a song with "Lightning" in the title, and "Stranger with Your Hair" (which Batgirl and I, while hoping for it, briefly transformed into "Stranger in Your Hair"---that would be a song with far different connotations!) are the ones I can remember though there could have been more. on saturday she was in the NOD to BOB workshop and I can surmize she sang...It aint me babe..it would surprsise me if she sang something else.. and sunday.. i saw the SONGs i have to keep singing workshop with jian giomeshsi and band the nields and mark errelli and gorka and lucy... well lucy sang with the nields on Love shack.. she was a nield gogo girl... And she was a in a blue and white sundress you guys missed another SUNdress on lucy... she sang broken things and return of hte grevious angel with john and mark erreli. she called for pete kennedy on guitar and jian on drums.. whatta a band... mark errelli can be hte offspring of lucy and gorka.. if they were older.. she had to tell Gorka waht he knew.. love was their cross to bear in country music there are couples..non married.. well almost who put out these cds...tammy wynette and george jones ( they were married) loretta lynn and conway twitty..kenny and dolly.. and there should be JOHN and Lucy.. lucy seemed like she was having sooooo much fun all weekend i didnt speak to her sunday... and actually have no plans to see her for a while its always a treat to see her at FRFF.... and ofcourse there were converse... i tried to get the wedding band to play 10 year night.. they owned the cd they couldnt play the song for me... john gorka reminded the crowd that Every Single day would be available on sept 11th..... sharon down from the farm of hillsdale... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2001 07:03:44 EDT From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] trivia answers... lucy played the Martin.. 00-18 until recently she has responded when asked about this NEW guitar... "i dont know what guitar it is ... its the same one richard shindell has" as for her pickup What kind of pickup do you have in your Martin? > I use a Fishman Blender system, which is a combination of a Crown microphone in the soundhole, and a Fishman pickup under the saddle. The blender (which I clip to my mike stand) serves as a mixer for the two. I love this system and highly recommend it - it gives a very natural sound and is incredibly easy to use. And it sounds good even when the sound system is bad. and her frff slot was HIgh noon on saturday.... todays trivia... what is the first song that she and john gorka together according to john.... sharon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2001 14:40:39 -0500 From: "jvotel" Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy at Falcon Ridge Hi folks: I expected to come back from Falcon Ridge with lots of e-mail on the digest about how wonderful Lucy was at the FRFF over the weekend. Let me get things rolling, then. Lucy performed a really good set on the mainstage Saturday at noon which included The Angels Rejoiced, Back of His Hand, Turn the Lights Back On, End of the Day and Don't Mind Me, among others, closing with the Swimming Song. Jon Harrington apparently got a late start that morning from NYC and came onstage for the final few songs to back Lucy. But my favorite moments came later Saturday afternoon when Lucy was on the workshop stage with John Gorka. During a Nod to Bob workshop, she performed It Ain't Me, Babe beautifully (even reading off a lyric sheet), reprising her performance on the Red House Nod to Bob disc. I really wish she would make this a regular part of her show for a while because she gives this song a killer treatment. I definitely prefer this to some of the other covers she does, which I have heard too often. She also sang Return of the Grievous Angel with John and Pete Kennedy backing her on electric guitar on the workshop stage Sunday, along with a heart-rending version of Broken Things. She backed John on the mainstage (Gypsy Life and I Saw a Stranger with Your Hair were notable) and on the workshop stage (Love is Our Cross to Bear and Blue Chalk). She sang harmony in a killer version of Love Shack by the Nields and the Kennedys during that same Sunday workshop stage performance. The bummer of the festival was that there was no Lucy-Dar Williams pairing when Dar performed Saturday evening. Dar did come out and back the Nields (Jennifer Falling Down) and had Nerissa and Katrina on with her toward the end of her set (As Cool As I Am). I know I am not the only one who was a wee bit disappointed that those two didn't share the stage to reprise a Cry Cry Cry song. So, as the sage Mick Jagger once observed, you can't always get what you want. I got what I needed -- three (four, really) days of wonderful music with a lot of my favorite artists. Til next year. - -- Jay "Injustice is relatively easy to bear; what stings is justice." - --H.L. It was absolutely amazing. I think every artist I saw was at their best all day. Lucy of course was fabulous! She looked cute in a pair of black jeans and a white t-shirt..and the hair was looking great :) Her set included Angels Rejoiced Last Night Written on the Back of His Hand Don't Mind Me One Good Reason By Way of Sorrow Ten Year Night Song for Molly End of the Day -which she forgot the second verse and the audience sang it for her until she released what it was :) Turn the Lights Back On Swimming Song -yeah my request!!!-yep that was me screaming it out :) John Gorka came out and sang with her for a few songs and then she came out during his set and sang with him. I went afterwards to meet her-my first time :) She was busy so she asked if i could meet her after the Bob Dylan workshop so I did. When she came out and signed my cd and book she was so cute. I had the Songwriters Exchange Cd and she was showing everyone what she looked like 20 years ago. I thanked her for her music and told her how much it meant to me and how much it had gotten me through and then i started crying and she started crying...then we hugged (yeh i lucy hug!!) and she signed my cd "You are so sweet" and the picture in my "Women Singer Songwriters" book so i could frame it and i took a picture with her :) Needless to say I was in my bliss! That day gave me enough inspiration to finally finish the lucy site i've been working on FOREVER!!!! Thanks to everyone who sent me pictures (back when i was cornflakegirl79@aol.com).
