Lucy Kaplansky's 'Every Single Day', dominates the new release schedule over the next few months, and we have a pile free discs to give away with the initial orders - details below; . The new release line up is looking very strong indeed... - ------------------------------------------------- Lucy Kaplansky - Every Single Day In March 1999, we made Lucy's 'Ten Year Night' release our album of the month, and with this new release she becomes the first artist to have a second album used as our lead item. Her new album, 'Every Single Day' is a superb mixture of her own songs and a few well-chosen covers, including a sublime reading of Julie Miller's 'Broken Things'. As ever, her voice is warm and easy to listen to, and the quality of the musicians and production is truly exceptional. 'Every Single Day' has a heavyweight line-up, with Larry Campbell, Richard Shindell, John Gorka, Jennifer Kimball and Buddy Miller amongst the players, but it's definitely Lucy who takes centre stage. The eleven songs are a clever and attractive mix of acoustic and fuller sounding tracks, but the common feature is the fact that they are all full of memorable hooks; it's a disc with the melodic charms of good pop music, but with the musical and lyrical depth you'd expect from a good singer/songwriter - a perfect combination. Highlights abound throughout the disc, and each listen uncovers something new to enjoy, but the definite standouts are the title track and 'Crazy Dreams', these two tracks emphasise the best qualities of the disc perfectly - great vocals and musicianship across two contrasting styles, one perfect radio material, the other a quiet reflective number. Over the course of her four albums, Lucy has improved on each previous release, and this disc is no exception - it's an album full of contrasts and subtlety, and it's all delivered in her disarming and understated style. This is a disc from a singer/songwriter at the very top of her game; it's an easy disc to listen to, with excellent melodies and smart production, but has huge depth both musically and lyrically. #13.49 (released 11th September) Samples http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/audio/written.ram http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/audio/crazy.ram http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/audio/brokenthings.ram http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/audio/stillstanding.ram http://www.fishrecords.co.uk/audio/everysingle.ram ORDER EVERY SINGLE DAY - RECEIVE A FREE RED HOUSE RECORDS COMPILATION DISC * We have 200 free Red House discs to give away with copies of 'Every Single Day' - these are full commercial titles that feature tracks by artists on the Red House roster, including Lucy Kaplansky, John Gorka, Cliff Eberhardt, Greg Brown, Chuck Brodsky and more. I have to win one of those copies from WFUV. I've been listening to the samples on the Fish Records site and they sound terrific. I had a great week of music. First Lucy at the WTC on Wed. Then on Sat I went to see Stevie Nicks with fellow lucy-lister, Renee. Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Lucy again at the Wilton Folk Festival in CT. She put on a grand show as usual. I didn't write down a set-list because I had my 6 & 8 yr old sons with me. The crowd did give Lucy 3 standing ovations. She obliged by singing 3 encores. It was a great show to end a wonderful week of music. I can't wait until Sept 11th----I better win a copy of "Every Single Day"!!
