It drives me nuts. The big record companies control what they want us to hear. I know that there must be an audience for acoustic music - esp. us baby boomers. How can the record industry be so short sighted? Maybe we should get all the people on all of these lists - like Gorka, Lavin, Werner... to go on a letter writing campaign? Anyone in the industry out there who can shed some light on this? So there is a change in the industry. DJ's have no say in what they play. They are told exactly what can and can't be played. Surely this all starts at the top with the record companies and it sure seems like payola to me. They probably have ways of doing it so that it isn't technically illegal and so it continues. It is dreadfully unfair to the artists and to us all, really. It is actually really frightening when you think about how powerful music can be - esp. to teens. I was thinking that we could try to alert the record companies that there is an audience for acoustic music. But, that doesn't address the "payola" issue, does it? We could become a group of militant folkies and take on the recording industry!
