I just have to say that her voice is absolutely amazing and if you decide to go you will be extremely glad that you did! Trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong! :) I first discovered her about 6 months ago, kind of by accident when I went to see my friend Colleen Sexton sing and Nicole came on after Colleen's set, so I stuck around for it. Needless to say, I was blown away, became friends with her, bought her CD and I have been playing it ever since. Her voice is equally haunting & beautiful and her lyrics will bring a tear to your eye(or if you are like me, tears will be *streaming* from your eyes). I urge anyone of you interested in seeing a fabulous up-n-coming singer, come check her out! :) Let me know if anyone is interested in meeting up with me there, or before the show perhaps. Hope to see some of you there :) **Read below for the show details*** Renee 'Batgirl Of The Night' Polgar Subject: Nicole McKenna show > Nicole McKenna & Band on Tuesday, June 5th @ 9pm > at the LAKESIDE LOUNGE in NYC > (located at 162 Avenue B- between 10th & 11th St) > For more info call 212.529.8463 > >*****Full Band Show******* >Featuring: Kevin Hupp (drums), Saul Zonana (keyboards), >Andrew Carillo (guitar), Kevin Jenkins (bass), & Nicole. >Come down to this very cool east village room!! >http://www.lakesidelounge.com >http://www.nicolemckenna.com _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 15:49:28 EDT From: Asdalin@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] Yes, to WFUV Steve in GA, I am in total agreement with you on WFUV. Where I live in NJ I can't receive it, but I do listen to it on my computer everyday. I finally became a paid member. I was delighted to hear that the wonderful John Platt is having Martha Trachtenberg and her husband, Tom Griffith on his show to play live in the studio. For those of you in NJ, we'll get to see Martha at the Outpost in Sept, opening for Phil Roy. What a treat! Also, on June 10th, Christine Lavin will be on WFUV filling in for John. She loves to share new artists, and even recipes. Be sure to tune in for what promises to be a fun show. I just started working 9-5 and it's kicking my butt. This was an AMAZING show. On one level I wonder if I enjoyed it because I'd worked so hard all week; on another level I know I loved it because it was a great f*cking show. I hadn't seen Lucy in a while. I'd seen her a bunch of times in a row a few months ago and she was playing a lot of the same stuff, so I thought I'd wait. (Yes, she does introduce new & innovative & beautiful vocal tricks in each show, but after a while the same song is still the same song.) Boy, am I glad I waited. The new stuff blew me away. Just blew me away. I forgot how one can literally get high off of Lucy's voice. It's just that beautiful. She's just that good. Wow. Set list: 1) The Angels Rejoiced (nice) 2) End of the Day (rock!) 3) Written on the Back of His Hand Stronger lyrics than I've heard from her in a while. Good stuff. 4) Don't Mind Me 5) One Good Reason (lots of new vocal stuff) 6) Ten Year Night (beautiful as usual) 7) No More Excuses This song is so great. I have so many people I want to sing this to.) 8) Nowhere -- "Inspired by a great songwriter named Julie Mlller." This song seemed to incorporate some details of Julie's life, too -- especially the image of the young unhappy girl wandering around the alienating city. Again, this was stronger lyrically than I have heard from Lucy in a long time. It was also solid musically. I think this is where I started feeling high. It was just that good. We also got to hear the Bryan Ferry/Ricola story. It was cute. 9) More Than This This song was truly to die for. Words don't do justice. 10) Turn the Lights Back On (yay!) 11) The Swimming Song I love hearing Lucy do this, especially since she hasn't released it. Don't look for it on the new album, either; I asked Rick and he said she recorded in for TYN, but it didn't "fit" with the album. *sigh* Oh well, one of these days. 12) Scorpion :) Encore The usual shouting out of requests, and then Lucy played... Guinevere. Pretty as usual. New album due out in August! yay! *** It was also really cool to meet up with Liz and have a long conversation about music before the show. (Hi, Liz! Quit lurking!) All in all, an *amazing* show. I'm still happy from it. Yay! - --Jessica ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 May 2001 19:28:45 EDT From: JWitchbaby@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] BL last Friday, part 2 Hi again :) Lucy alone was well worth twice the price of admission. But Buddy and Julie would have been worth that as well. I'd seen them before, both at the BL and in San Francisco, but I never enjoyed them this much before. I bought Cruel Moon and have been listening to it obsessively all week. "Somewhere Trouble Don't Go" is my new favorite song; I dance around to it in the morning on the greyest days. I won't post the setlist since this is a Lucy list and not B & J, but if you've never heard them before I strongly, strongly recommend it. By the way, the "new" verse in "By Way of Sorrow" is actually an original verse. I don't know why Cry3 changed it. It was so cute when Lucy came out to sing on that. Lucy went over to the third mike but Julie insisted that they share a mike. "Over there -- you're too far away!" Julie said. (*sigh* I love her.) It soon became apparent why Lucy was so reluctant to share the mike -- they're about a foot apart in height. So Julie bent a bit and Lucy sang on tiptoe (no joke!) and all was well. *another big sigh* What a great show.
