Lucy was joined by Nina Gerber, who, I must say totally distracted me from Lucy all night. As a guitar player I just had to watch her. She is VERY good. Lucy was in great form and her brother Spike always comes to her LA gigs. It was raining so she gave us a verse or two of of "It never rains in Southern California." It is a beautiful venue (a church built during the craftsman era and next to the Historically preserved Gamble House which, if you like architecture and especially turn of the century furnishings it is definetely something to see)and being there in the rain was kind of magical. Here's the set list: The Angels Rejoiced in Heaven Last Night ?Written on the back of his hand? Five in the Morning Don't Blame Me Broken Things Ten Year Night End of the Day What's so funny about.... Just you tonite More than this Return of the Grevious Angel (with a her friend mandolinist (and all around studio musician) Matt Cartsonis - who my roomate thinks is adorable!) ...Break.... Mary and the Soldier Five in the Morning Scorpion No More Excuses If you could see Irv's Alphabet Song A Song about Pi ?Nowhere (go inside)? Turn the lights back on ?Swimming? ?Rodeo - Boy in CA song? ?Someday Soon? Molly By Way of Sorrow Encore Guinevere Sorry for the multiple songs I don't have correct titles for. Many were new (maybe some of you can correct this) and I just don't know enough folk or country standards to recognize some of the songs. If anyone can correct go right ahead. Met a multiple list lurker named Delores. Someone bug her here! I am going to go REALLY give her a bad time on the Richard List! Happy Weekend to all. Next weekend for me is Cheryl Wheeler at the same venue. Hussah! :-) E ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Apr 2001 20:34:41 EDT From: Folkyman@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Lucy in Pasadena, CA Yes, it was a great show. I have seen Lucy at that venue 3 times now and each time is different. Last year, her dad joined her for a few songs. Nina being there made it a totally new experience. I used to see Nina with Kate Wolf at McCabes Guitar Shop but that was many years ago. I can't help you much with the set list because I just listened and enjoyed instead of taking notes. She did sing "The Swimming Song" by Loudon Wainwright III and "Someday Soon" which is the "rodeo-boy in CA" song. In between, I thought she sang "When I Get To The Border" but I could be wrong. Getting too old to remember this sort of stuff. I bought the "Nod to Bob" cd last night and it is really good. Lucy's cut ,"It Ain't Me Babe" is one of the best on the cd,although there a several excellent cuts. I saw Cheryl Wheeler at the church a couple years ago and she was fantastic. I know you will enjoy it....RKP ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V3 #89 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
