Sarah harmer has a few uk dates up on her webpage. i don't think her cds are on sale here, but listen to sound clips on amazon or her webpage or something because she rocks... i know that glasgow 19th may in king tuts is a sure thing, but i'm not sure of the other dates. it's all on www.sarahharmer.cocm thanks for the tolerance, jenny* tell me what kind of gauge can quantify elation, what kind of equation might i possibly employ ~ ani D ~ school night ~ reckoning ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 13:14:24 -0500 From: "Timothy Bruce" Subject: [lucy-list] Kaplansky Kaplansky Kaplansky! Seeing as how I have front row reserved seats for a show this summer in which Lucy and Cheryl Wheeler will be on stage together, I couldn't help but hearken back to a posting from last August regarding Lucy and Cheryl performing together at the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival. One of us posted then that Cheryl had re-worked her Mexican Hat Dance parody of the potato to tease Lucy, with the chorus "Ka-Plan-Sky Ka-Plan-Sky Ka-Plan-Sky" in place of "Potato Potato Potato". I nearly died laughing and, though thinking about it often since then, never figuring to ask the natural follow-up question: "Did Cheryl just change the chorus, or did she write a VERSE or two about Lucy to precede the chorus?" Well, while waiting for the answer, perhaps we could write our own verses! Here's my contribution for the first verse... (VERSE 1) She plays and sings with ease... And adds pretty harmonies... She writes lyrics that stick... With help from her husband Rick. (CHORUS) Oh, Ka PLAN Sky Ka PLAN Sky Ka PLAN Sky Ka Plan SKY Ka Plan SKY Ka Plan SKY Ka Plan Sky KA Plan Sky KA Plan Sky KA Plan Sky Ka-Plan-Sky Ka-Plan-Sky Ka-PLAN.... (Which I never heard, but can only imagine! Cherly's brilliant feat of concentration and wit is recorded, by the way, on her recent CD "Sylvia Hotel") So anyone up for writing another verse? JennyFrog, I didn't take your comment the wrong way, but it WAS "a sad day" for the list....that's WHY I posted the Cheryl Wheeler thread. A sad week actually. Four posts in the past FIVE days and only one or two of them concerning Lucy! That IS sad. At least I was commenting upon an actual concert happening...one which could very well happen again this summer when Lucy and Cheryl undergo (what might be) an extensive tour together with John Gorka and Cliff Eberhardt (the re-born "On A Summer's Night" tour). The purpose of my post was to try to lure whomever posted back in August to come forth and further elaborate. Since then, I have done a little research and found that the tid-bit did not come from the Lucy List but, rather, from the ever hyperactive Dar List: >>>>Jess B reported on the Dar List: "Here is my little report on rocky mountain folk fest..... "Lucy K looked very spiffy, was great, and brought up cheryl wheeler for a few songs, which was amazing. "Cheryl's set made me laugh more than i ever have in my life, she brought lucy up for some songs (they seem to have a little flirtation going on), and was a huge hit. she did a kaplanksy version of her potato song (ka-PLAN-sky, ka-plan-SKY, KA-plan-sky, etc). she also pointed about that lucika plansky is the correct name, and she hopes people will all come to realize that...."<<<< I doubt Cheryl will make a regular thing out of the Ka-Plan-Sky version of her Potato song, but I will be seeing that tour twice this July and maybe....if I'm lucky.....I will die laughing then and there. Of course, unless I can post "from the other side", someone else will have to report it! By the way, Froggy, I just checked the performer list for Winnipeg and both Sarah Harmer and Kate Rusby are scheduled. I'm excited. It says Sarah is from Ontario (I didn't know....but where performers are from seems to matter a lot to the people who book this festival.) Only 7 out of the 64 on their list so far are from the US and the festival is only an hour north of the border. Two of the 'Yanks' are Jess Klein and Erin McKeown. Also from your neck of the woods is Archie Fisher. Ever hear of him? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 20:46:08 +0100 From: "donald.anderson" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Kaplansky Kaplansky Kaplansky! Hi Jenny - How's the studying going ?? Nice find on Musi-Cal ! - If the Doc's playing in some folk club in darkest Bolton for two nights in December must be a good chance she will appear , north of the border , in Bonnie Scotland. Me and Liz went to see her last December in The Bein Inn which is just south of Perth - As luck would have it the Doc was staying there as well - and so were we ! So after the show I went to the bar to get us a drink to return to a roaring log fire with my wife sitting on the couch and Lucy sitting at the armchair beside the fire , next to Liz !! Yes - There is a God. We chatted for about an hour and a half and she was brilliant. Lucy was travelling to Glasgow the next day , where she acquired The Jacket , and was going to meet up with her husband there. The Bein Inn is what you would call intimate in that it's max capacity is 45 souls , and yes it was sold out. Lucy was well impressed that we'd travelled over a hundred miles just to see her , and guess what I'd do the same anytime. Hey Sharon you NYC's are lucky so and so's with all these Doc gigs coming up - so next time I get over the pond can you make sure that Lucy is on the same bill as Shawn in the Bottom Line ? - Never mind only 43 days to go before SC & MCC in Glasgow !!!!
