A lot to respond to in that last digest! >>>Subject: [lucy-list] Shindell-"Willin" I just read on the Richard-list that he sang Little Feat's, "Willin" last night in Mass. It has to be one of my all time favorites. He liked the way it sounded and might consider it for the "live cd". Lucy has to sing it with him!!<<< I would like this as much as anyone! I fell in love with that song at shows by "The New Orleans Radiators" with the whole audience singing along. Afterwhich it showed up as a sing along at lots of folkie campfires. Still, it doesn't seem to fit Lucy's image to belt out "If you give me weed, whites, and wine...and show me a sign..." It fits ME, but not her! Still, I think it would be a hoot! ____________ >>>i asked lucy what was the Center Piece SONG of the new Cd..the TIDE.. opens with the TIDE... Flesh and Bones.. has Flesh and Bones.on it.. and ofcourse.. TEN YEAR NIGHT.. has the NOW famous Ten year night.. PIck one of the LK songs.. and that should be the Title..<<< I'm surprised no-one has "called" Sharon on this one yet, but "flesh and bone" is only a line in the song "Still Life" just like "burning gravity" is only a line in the song "Don't Mind Me". My two cents worth is that if "Reservation Blues" DOES get made AND Lucy gets to show her face in it AND she sings the "Don't Mind Me" song instead of one of the main female characters then proper promotion of this song is key. Although sorta poppish, I feel it may be the signature song of the CD if the movie flies. As previously mentioned on the list, though, I squirm a little bit when I think of Lucy becoming a more "sexy" persona on stage. It's akin to the feeling a protective big brother would get when his cute little sister enters high school and immediately tries out for the cheerleading squad. 'Hey, Bub! Don't look at my sister that way!' ____________ Re: Letter from Bob >>>>I could write alot more about this album but I really appreciate >your letting me send these Updates to your computers so I will save >it for next time. Thanks for all the notes. Bob Feldman >http://www.redhouserecords.com<<<<< I ran into Bob and his elementary-aged son Ari last night at the Dave and Tracy show. It was D & T's first time in Minnesota and they rocked! It didn't seem to be the right time or place to pester Mr. Feldman about Lucy's project or any of the particulars (like the title). Still, in retrospect, I wish I would have just walked by him later in the night and mumbled under my breath "Burning Gravity"! I'm sure he has more input into it than any of us on this list! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2001 17:12:35 EST From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] Still life and more.. YO timothy.. you are Right as Rain. it struck me on the way home that Flesh and Bones is a song, by the man who inspired crycrycry.. JOhnny CAsh.. it was sung by mary chapin and emmy lou at his tribute _it all leads to emmy lou.. i tell you.. i also think that Lucy has a radio single with Dont Mind ME.. she needs to get it out as a single.. and get it on the radio.. sherman alexie or not unless it was a paid commission.. use it or lose it i say.. or play your song for me.. maybe she needs to get back to her roots and call the cd.. not far from Folk City.. life after Folk City... maybe there are copyright things.. with FC..usage hey heres a risk.. has anyone heard WHOLE NEW YOU.. man that is sung in distinctive LK style.. even the NON words are DOCs... i shook my head and wondered.. where Shawn learned to sing like that... it is a mary chapin type song.. that needs a lower range.. sharon but ill be there Tuesday.. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2001 21:38:01 EST From: JWitchbaby@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] "Woman of the Road", Shawn Hey all, I found a Lucy song on napster last week, "Woman of the Road". Has anyone heard this? It's stunning. It sounds recent, studio-produced, and like Lucy wrote it. Off the new album perhaps? Any info? Also, I know sharon's going to see Shawn Colvin at the Bottom Line in NYC next week. Anyone else? Anyone got extra tickets? That show is sold out, out, out. As usual Lucy's taste in songwriters was exquisite; Jack has few peers, and if you love the craft, I urge you to discover his work. Ironically, after the court-ordered clampdown requiring Napster to block all songs on a huge list from the major labels, it's going to become easier and easier to find independent music there! However, if the songs don't carry any attribution saying where they came from, it doesn't do the musicians much good. If you find a song on Napster that you don't recognize, use the Google search engine ( http://www.google.com ) to try and nail it down. In this case the search string woman.of.the.road lucy gets you to Ron Mura's excellent Jack Hardy discography on the first or second hit. - --On Friday, March 16, 2001 10:29 PM -0500 Pat Grismore wrote: > It sounds older to me. maybe one of the Folk City compilations? > Thanks for the heads up!! > > -----Original Message----- > From: JWitchbaby@aol.com > Sent: Friday, March 16, 2001 9:38 PM > > I found a Lucy song on napster last week, "Woman of the Road". I discovered Lucy on Napster as well as alot of other artists I hadn't heard of before. I hope they don't shut it down, it's my best resource for sampling music. I'm going to see Lucy for the first time on April 14th in North Andover, Mass. Can't wait!
