I'm sure many of you are aware of this new Dylan tribute cd, but for those of you that weren't, I thought I'd pass along this information. I have heard Lucy's cover of "It Ain't Me, Babe", and it's great! Enjoy! Renee Polgar :) From: "Bob Feldman" >Subject: Red House / Dylan Tribute >>He rocked, he spewed venom, he seduced, he sang us to sleep and >>slapped us awake, he befriended the shadow, and he held the lamp up >>to all our faces. He irreverently and irrevocably turned the >>suburban backyard of folk music into a mysterious tangled forest of >>unlimited possibilities. I am still uncovering alleyways in my own >>music that lead directly to his door. I don't know if anyone who >>comes after him can claim originality, damn it. I give up. I sit at >>his feet. "A Nod To Bob" An Artists Tribute To >Bob Dylan on His Sixtieth Birthday. This is a project that I have >been wanting to do for many years for many reasons. Red House as you >know has always been a label that specializes and prides it self in >celebrating great songwriters and the troubador tradition. Bob Dylan >was a huge influence on me and pretty much all of our artists. In >fact Greg Brown said to me once "he invented my job". Well I feel he >invented all of our jobs here and yes I believe Greg Brown and Lucy >Kaplansky and John Gorka and all of our artists would still be >writing and singing but I'm sure they would be doing it very >differently if it wasn't for Dylan who came along and invented a >genre. > >Bob Dylan is turning sixty on May 24th. (I remember when he turned >30 and we couldn't trust him anymore). Being a label based in Bob's >home state of Minnesota and being the type of label we are I felt it >was time to pay tribute to Bob. I asked our artists to record a song >of his that they loved or had a special emotional attatchment to. >Everyone of the artists had a special history with Dylan. Norman >Blake played on 'Nashville Skyline' and "Self Portrait" and Peter >Ostroushko's first recording job ever was Bob's "Blood On The >Tracks". Spider John Koerner was in a duo with Dylan in his >University of Minnesota days. Ramblin' Jack Elliott was a huge >influence on the young Bob Dylan meeting each other at Woody >Guthries' bedside while he was in the hospital. Guy Davis recorded >his song with Levon Helm from The Band, Rosalie Sorrels knew Dylan >as a mutual fan and many of the other artists had interesting stories >about their first hearing Bob. > >The artists did a beautiful job with Dylans' songs and the album is >getting the biggest response we have ever had as a label. I had a >call from the editor of the Bob Dylan magazine "On The Tracks" and he >said it was the best Dylan tribute ever! Every day we are getting >the most amazing calls about this album from critics and media >people. It is really fun. Everyone we talk to in the media says >that they will be writing about it. There was a nice mention in the >NY Times this past Sunday. I've been very nervous about this one >because of the respect that I have for Dylans work over the last 40 >years. But I love this album and fell proud of what the artists came >up with. I'm obsessed I can't stop listening to it. > >I wanted to make this cd available to you on our email list first . >So for those of you who are interested we will take orders now and >ship copies to this list the third week of April , The album will be >in stores on May 8th. So now we have another CD Title, "Open Book". We can add that to "Burning Gravity" and "New Red Shoes". Are there any others that I'm not aware of? I still like "New Red Shoes". I can picture the CD cover with Lucy and her new shoes. What do you Lucy-listers think? Donna ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 09:36:07 EST From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] new red shoes ..hey donna aint that kinda Doorthy from Kansas... and i think that is on a cd cover.. the prior cd jackets are SO downtown.. i think what ever she has on the cover.. she needs to accommodate her mom and it needs to be sleeveless that little.. summer sundress she wore at frff was a great number or to counter HER overcritical fans..The leather jacket.. that she wears would be most appropriate... maybe the SCOTLAND jacket.. sharon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 09:52:16 EST From: Steeleye77@cs.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] new red shoes Yeah, that's already on an Electric Light Orchestra cover (ELO) album cover. The album was "Eldorado". I suggested Crazy Dreams and was rejected... ah well. *Sigh*... Burning Gravity sounds so 70's... I like the New Red Shoes. Captures the moment. :) Flyer Who needs Cupid? So what is your opinion on the new title? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 11:15:29 -0500 (EST) From: "The Myers Family" Subject: [lucy-list] Shindell-"Willin" I just read on the Richard-list that he sang Little Feat's, "Willin" last night in Mass. It has to be one of my all time favorites. He liked the way it sounded and might consider it for the "live cd". Lucy has to sing it with him!! Is she going to be at the Emelin? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 11:32:12 EST From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] the title song.. i asked lucy what was the Center Piece SONG of the new Cd.. the TIDE.. opens with the TIDE... Bryan Ferry released an album back in 1991 entitled "Bete Noir", and it featured the song "Seven Deadly Sins". Who cares? Let's all look forward to a great new album. I think it will really be called "Nowhere". Paul ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 22:22:35 -0500 From: "Pat Grismore" Subject: [lucy-list] Contributing vocalists update!!
