To my surprise, about 2/3 of the way through her set, she mentioned to the audience that she had a "jerk trilogy" and then sang one of the songs. It went something like something like "I never really was a bad girl, but you've got me in trouble again...". I immediately thought, "What's with all these nice, dark-haired Jewish female singer-songwriters with their angry trilogies?" Karla's song sounded a lot more tame than, say, "You're My Role Model", but it looks like this genre is becoming trendy! Another funny bit was when Karla sang her 1982 hit "Please Be the One", which she prefaced by saying that she had lip-synched it on Solid Gold, complete with the Solid Gold dancers dancing all around! She said that that's what artists had to do in those days. (Better at least that she lip-synched it, rather than have Andy Gibb or Marilyn McCoo cover it, as the SG hosts often did...) She also lip-synched the same tune on the Merv Griffin Show on a day when the other guests were Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits and Richard Simmons. I'd say that Lucy's pretty lucky that Solid Gold still isn't around these days! m ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Feb 2001 20:42:03 EST From: Bernhot@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Karla Bonoff KB wrote and performed quite a while ago. I believe the song you're referring to is "Isn't It Always Love?" My friends and I KB fans) were disappointed when we saw her several months ago with Patti Larkin, who was much more dynamic.
