I don't know if anyone else from the list tuned-in, but I made the effort to tune my computer to the Bluebird Cafe show last night. I'm still learning about the technology so it was a bit of a panic getting the "password", then trying to set up a rig to cassette record the stream (which I soon abandoned because of poor sound quality) and then to log-on to the show from the website, but it all came together just at the moment Lucy took the stage. Technologically, it was less than overwhelming. The sound quality lacked brilliance and didn't even sound like it was stereo. A message came up frequently saying "Network Congestion" and locking up the sound and video stream. The visuals were most of the time a slow series of stills. Nevertheless, it was revolutionary! And worth the effort....I mean, there was Lucy, live in my house! I am 100% certain she did not know she was in my house....or in anyone's house for that matter. She never looked at the camera (it must have been in the shadows) and never mentioned the web-cast. She even discussed at length her mass-media nervousness when interviewed on the BBC last December--how she coped by pretending that she was only talking and playing to that one person in the studio with her, and how she just about lost it when later in the day she was told that the estimated audience for that show had been half-a-million! If she had been aware of the live web-cast, this would have been the time to mention it, but she didn't. Despite the poor sound quality and the cartoon-like character of the accompanying video and the occasional locking-up, it was a treat lying on my bed in the dark listening to a live Lucy show beamed to me from another city. I already have six tickets for a Lucy show on March 31st at one of the coziest venues in the universe (Oak Center General Store) so this was a great warm-up. Maybe by then she'll have a title for the CD. She was still soliciting suggestions from the audience last night, but none came forth. Lucy did the Brian Ferry song, "More Than This" which was exceptionally beautiful. She also did "The Return of the Grievous Angel" solo, which I don't think I have ever heard her do before live. (It'll now go on my "instant request" list to blurt out at that moment when she opens the floor for requests and there is a pregnant pause while people are thinking.) There was also an amusing moment in the show when she forgot a lyric. It went something like this: "Oh, I forgot the words....Pocket full of.......(long pause)...who knows the words? (Then from the audience "GOLD!")....Gold! Hey, I know you!" She encored with a more Richard-like and less sultry version of his "Ballad of Mary Magdalene". Lucy looked great. i heard her more than fine.. i cranked the volume.. my cat sat up to see Lucy.. she knows the voice in my opinion.. that was a kickin show.. she played.. all her new songs.. old favorites By way of sorrow the kid mary magdelene and return of the greivous angel.. (my Personal fav) as well as DOnt Mind me.. the only rebuffing was when she was talking about the new album title.. and the encore then i got it was MARY Magdelene i hear her acknowledging the crowd and someone she recognized when she flubbed lyrics and the audience response sounded good.. man.. it didnt beat being there. she played almost 2 hours.. as to.. her being richards tuner.. Richard did tune to lucys facial reactions.. i heard somewhere she has perfect pitch and can very well be a tuner.. not a tuna.. oh those new england accents... sharon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 11:49:19 -0500 From: "Paul Rafanello" Subject: RE: [lucy-list] Lucy...live in my house! I saw most of the show at the Bluebird as well, but it was a frustrating experience. Despite having a clean DSL connection, I was locked out, and video was chopped. Still, it was nice to hear her perform "Crazy Dreams", and "The Kid" "Oh, I forgot the words....Pocket full of.......(long pause)...who knows the words? (Then from the audience "GOLD!")....Gold! Hey, I know you!" - End Of The Day. There's nothing like seeing Lucy live in person. To exact revenge, I will describe to the List (in gruesome detail) the condition of your living room and the contents of your refrigerator last July before Falcon Ridge and Dave (The Traveling Scot) McKay or perhaps Miami Sue (OzWoman321) will confirm it as being true. So there! >>I heard her more than fine.. i cranked the volume.. my cat sat up to see Lucy. she knows the voice.<< Now that cat sitting up to watch Lucy on your monitor would have been a funny sight to see!
