Hello everyone! I apologize for my review being a bit late and I hope not to be too repetitive, since I know many of you have already posted/read reviews from the Outpost. I attended the show with a photographer that was asked to take pics. during the show, so we arrived at the church very early-I believe it was about 4:30pm. Well, by 5pm, I was sitting there in the church, watching and listening as Richard sat on the edge of the stage playing around on the guitar and singing bits and pieces of various songs. I was the only person witnessing this(other than my friend/photographer who was in another room setting up and the management/sound crew) so I felt especially lucky. I had the opportunity to see first hand all of the preparation involved before a show-especially when it is being recorded for a live CD. Richard continued playing snippets from different songs and said that he needed to decide what his set list would be. He was joined by an accordion player(Rad?),violinist.guitarist for the sound check. They took turns with a solo on each instrument to test the sound for the best results for recording purposes. Richard left the stage briefly. Then Lucy joined them on stage and sang a series of "La, la, la, la's" to test her microphone, etc. Richard returned, guitar in hand, and joined Lucy for rehearsal. He sang part of "Confession", then "Fluer-De-Lis" with Lucy harmonizing. They topped it off with "Mary Magdalene"-awesome! As I sat there all alone, hearing this sneak peak, I knew it was a very special moment. It gave me chills throughout my body. They also did pieces of "Summer Wind, Cotton Dress", before having a discussion on what they should eat for dinner. Thai seemed to be the preferred food of choice! :) I shall now move onto to the *actual* show, I don't want to bore anyone too much with a million little details. Since I was with the photographer, we sat in the very first row, my legs were literally pressed up against the stage. James Keelahan opened the show with a great set. I heard his version of "Cold Missouri Waters" for the first time-Wow! The crowd really seemed to like him a lot! I was very impressed with his voice and passionate guitar playing. Next Lucy hit the stage, wearing all black except for her blood red, vinyl shoes with matching toe nail polish. She asked Richard to hold her up her shoe so everyone could get a good look and said "Matching toe nail polish, these are the things that matter to me!" She was accompanied by John Harrington on electric guitar. Her set list was as follows(I *think* it's accurate): Small Dark Movie, Written On The Back of His Hand, End Of The Day, I Know What It Is To Be Nowhere(I love this one!), Don't Mind Me. Then she invited Richard to sing with her on 10 Year Night and By Way Of Sorrow. He left after those songs and Lucy went on to continue her set. She told us her tale of her recent UK tour and that Bryan Ferry (of Roxy Music) wanted her to sing with him on his upcoming CD. So within an hour or so she was in the studio singing with him-she had been getting over a cold and he had brought her Riccola cough drops. Lucy joked and said she should have them bronzed. In tribute to him, she sang a phenomenal version of Roxy Music's "More Than This". It was so beautiful! I'm really hoping/wishing that she will record that for her new cd! Next she sang Time To Go, One Good Reason, Turn The Lights Back On, Swimming Song. Richard returned to sing with her on Scorpion, Speaking With The Angel(again-WOW!)It was flawless!! Now it was Richard's turn to shine! He opened with Confession and went on to sing Arrowhead, Reunion Hill, (Blackie Farrel song-? Don't recall the name), On A Sea Of Fluer-De-Lis, Fishing, Wisteria(hauntingly beautiful as always!)-once again-chills! Lucy came back to sing harmony for Mary Magdalene, Summer Wind Cotton Dress, Next Best Western & Are You Happy Now. As he was tuning for Mary Magdalene he said he doesn't even need a tuner, he can just tell if he's in tune by the faces that Lucy makes! It was pretty funny! :) Well he completed his set with Transit. As the clock struck the midnight hour, it was officially my birthday. I turned 28 exactly as the final note of Transit ended! The timing was perfect! As part of his encore he had to sing Fluer-De-Lis a second time due to a technical problem during the recording. Lucy returned to join him for a wonderful rendition of Love Hurts! This was my first experience hearing them perform this. I was blown away! Since I was the photographer's guest/assistant, we stayed after the show and hung out for awhile. I spoke with Richard & Lucy for awhile. Lucy was in a bit of a hurry but I did manage to take a picture of me with both of them, which was great! Richard seemed very relaxed and was as sweet to me as ever. He's just such a terrific person, so down to earth. We chatted about the show, the recording, FRFF, and other odds & ends. Well, that about sums it up, I hope everyone had an amazing time at the show as well. I will post the pics of me with Richard & Lucy when I get them developed if anyone is interested in checking them out. Take care! *still basking in the after glow* Renee Batgirl Polgar :) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Feb 2001 17:19:34 +1100 From: "Allison Corrigan" Subject: RE: [lucy-list] In Your Dreams Folk Festival THE Festival in Australia: 1. But, she'll just pick up an acoustic, give you that innocent little girl grin, quietly laugh and say? "Nevah!" Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
