This seems a fair way to catch up on an "newly discovered" artist's older work. The trouble is, I tend to do them in bunches and I don't always take the time to label the tapes properly! This sometimes results in "mystery tapes". Yesterday I took off of work early and drove to western Wisconsin for a workshop and public performance by a troupe of master drummers--The National Ensemble of the Republic of Guinea. Wow! On the way there (and back) I tackled two of these mystery tapes. I figured out all of them but couldn't verify the last one until this morning. It was Alison Krauss and Union Station--"Two Highways". This title is appropriate because it seemed to me at the time (driving cross-country down the dark rural interstate) that this would be the kind of music that someone who drives a lot (over-the road truckers, itinerant folk musicians, etc.) would want to listen to to keep awake while driving at night. (In the words of Lucy's Mom, "It's Zippy!"). One song, "Heaven's Bright Shore" seemed to really ring a bell.... Lucy talked a bit last year about her peculiar fascination with gospel bluegrass and and opened her show with "The Angels Rejoiced in Heaven" a few times. I seem to recollect her doing "Heaven's Bright Shore" sometime recently (or did I imagine this?) Anybody else remember it? And if she's done it, does when do it solo, in a gospel workshop, or with Dar and Richard? Please.....inquiring minds want to know!
