Right after the "split," at the height of that record's popularity, he was at WXPN's singer songwriter weekend and also did nothing from "The Mountain." Songs must leave a bitter taste in his mouth. How about John Prine, Lucinda Williams or the Roches. Sharon mentioned in an earlier post about musical influences. I'll have to second Linda Ronstadt on that one. Linda got me listening to Little Feat along with all the others Sharon mentioned. I would love to hear Lucy sing "Willin", a Little Feat song that Linda covered.....Donna ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 11:55:01 -0500 From: "Paul Rafanello" Subject: [lucy-list] Towne Crier Cafe 01.26.01 I had a great time on Friday. Sharon joined my wife & I, and we got to hear a lot of new tunes, along with old favorites. During her set, Lucy mentioned her new fashion for 2001. Pink toenail polish, and new shoes. I couldn't see them from where were sitting. Here's the setlist. It might not be in the exact order. Small Dark Movie Back Of Your Hand End Of The Day Broken Things No More Excuses - right on to whoever said this sounds like Spector Ten Year Night Don't Mind Me (Play Your Song For Me) One Good Reason The Tide (!!!) Scorpion More Than This (Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry) - wow, it felt like 1982 again for me. Just You Tonight (Piano) Time To Go Pi Song/New Irving song Love Is The Ride Guilty As Sin Turn The Lights Back On E: The Ballad Of Mary Magdalene During the set, Lucy said she has recorded 7-8 tracks for her new CD which should be out this fall. I suspect the other 2 songs will be covers. One has to be "Broken Things". I am hoping she covers Richard & Linda Thompson's "Heart Needs A Home". I've only seen her perform that live once in 1999. As for backup singers, Jennifer Kimball is logical choice. Jonatha Brooke could be interesting. Here's my dark horse choice: Slaid Cleaves. Lucy is also taking suggestions for the CD title. "Burning Gravity" seems to be the leading choice. I would be intrigued if she went for "Seven Deadly Sins". See you all on Friday at the Outpost. TURN it up.. for me it was loud enough.. the rock crowd.. could not appreciate TIM o"brien as a bluegrass duke and did not know "the circle be unbroken" this crowd.. liked stacey though.. well we cheered for her.. sharon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 15:50:23 -0500 From: "Kristina Plath" Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy @ the Night Eagle Hey!! GGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this woman!!!! Ok, breathing, breathing... We parked NEXT TO LUCY AGAIN... Now at how many venues can you do that?? After pizza the doors opened... turning the doorknob to enter the Night Eagle is about my favorite thing in the world. Lucy was just sitting back there with Rick talking... She recognized me. SHe recognized me. SHE RECOGNIZED ME. I could have turned into a puddle there on the floor. I swear. Rick said, "You were at the Bottom Line, too, right?" at which point I pointed to my tshirt... a Bottom Line t-shirt... SHe said "thanks for coming" about a million times. I love that. For many years my idol was Nanci Griffith, someone whose writing I still respect, but someone who would never recognize a fan. That's one of the big reasons I love Lucy-- she's honest. SHe makes time for her fans. I hope she knows how much we all appreciate that! : ) Froghead sent me whiskey to give to Lucy. Yeah, this glass bottle of whiskey made it across the ocean intact, but without a tax stamp. Possession of it, technically, is against the law. Not only that, but the Night Eagle is an alcohol-free venue. Oh well. Turned criminal at age 18, poor me. : ) Lucy said "thank you" another billion times. Ok. I wrote a set list.
