Walter - this was Jez Luton, an old londonpal of mine, who now lives in Cornwall. He's been playing with Tom for quite a few years now, whenever he tours the UK. I interviewed Jez about this, and his time as a member of Jez Lowe's Bad Pennies, in my 'across the pond' column back in February 2000 - see http://folkmusic.about.com/library/weekly/bl_pond05_0200a.htm > The other concert I saw was the Alison Brown Quartet. I, too, saw Alison at The Borderline in London earlier in the month - a wonderful show. I personally loved the variety of jazz, Latin, and bluegrass - both her banjo and guitar playing are mind-bogglingly good. How anyone can look so relaxed playing at that speed is beyond belief and her sensitive duets with fiddler Casey Driessen were truly beautiful. Hope she wins both Grammies for 'Fair Weather'. In response to SharonG: Subject: [lucy-list] the second summer >>HOw come no one announced that Lucy has been booked for the second yer to falcon ridge...well congrats to lucy and YEAH for us<< Didn't know! You're the first to tell me. How did you find out: has FRFF put up a list of early bookings yet? I would have been overcome with guilt if they had passed on Lucy when I did not take the time to get and fill out a festival questionnaire! I am already "there" with frequent flier ticket in hand. My only remaining question is whether to rent a car or improvise from the Albany airport. Anybody done that? Means traveling way lighter! My current desktop wallpaper is Lucy singing on stage with Karen Savoca (FRFF "regular" and Albany-area resident) who was noticeably absent last summer for my first FRFF because she opted to do the Canadian festival circuit with Dar. But desktop wallpaper is just a passive form of creative visualization, right? Sharon, when might we expect to see the beginnings of a line-up on their website? I'm new to the list as of yesterday and am looking forward to hearing what's new and exciting with Lucy's music and her tour, etc. I just returned yesterday from a week in Ireland and wanted to share this interesting Lucy-related story with all of you. I was way out in the middle of nowhere in Connemara on Wednesday and turned on the car radio. The first thing that I heard was a woman singing "Return of the Grievous Angel." Not knowing Lucy had done this on an early album (Flesh and Bone), I remarked that it sure sounded like Lucy K. Something about the singer's voice reminded me of her singing style. Much to my amazement, it was Lucy. Needless to say it got me a bit homesick and psyched to see her in Montclair, NJ, on 2/2, all at once. I don't happen to own that album, so I would appreciate knowing who the guy is singing back up on that song. Thanks! John Gorka is singing harmony with Lucy on "Return of the Grievous Angel" on Flesh and Bone. Hopefully Richard and Lucy will sing it in Montclair! And my favorite would be Peter Mulvey, too, no doubt about it. Also Michael Hedges would be in my list. The guitar is just an amazing instrument, isn't it?
