Saw Tom Paxton, who I thought was excellent. It was a relaxing, enjoyable evening, full of gentle, familiar, beautifully crafted songs, delivered by a performer totally at ease with his music and his audience. Tom kept a well attended, but not full Concert Hall, entranced with his music, which this Lucy Lister thinks is greatly under valued. He played with just the support of an English guitar player, whose name, I'm ashamed to say, I have forgotten. He was terrific however. The other concert I saw was the Alison Brown Quartet. Believe it or not this is a fashion of bluegrass and jazz, with the lead instrument being Alison's banjo! The Quartet of 5 were superb, I enjoyed their music far more than I expected, might even buy the album. its all instrumental. The opportunity to listen to music like this which is not normally what I do listen to, is what makes Celtic Connections such a grand event. Ian, we'll be at the Iris Dement etc show as well, Sunday, we're in the stalls somewhere. Jenny, tell me more about your friend Annie Difranco. What's her music like and should I go to the Fruitmarket on Monday to hear her? regards Walter From: "IAN BUCHAN" To: Sent: 24 January 2001 22:39 Subject: Re: [lucy-list] 5 IN THE MORNING > Ian with one i here Jenny. I love his guitar work and I can always tell when he's a guest on someone else's record...I hear they just named a dinasaur fossil after him because the archeologists listened to his music and made their best finds while listening to him. susan in oakland ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V3 #20 ****************************** This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
