Sharon G, amongst other things, told us the following - > the woman who is most influential as an artist ... > who took me to nelson riddle, gershwin, rogers and hart, > the eagles, dolly parton and emmylou to buddy holly, > to bonnie raitt, to jackson browne to herself was linda > rondstadt...without her ... where would i be musically... For me it was Mary Chapin Carpenter. About 1994 I was discussing music with a friend saying that I was running out of interesting artists and albums. He suggested that I listen to Chapin on a BBC Radio 2 concert later that week. I did, I then bought Come On, Come On liked it and started to work my way through her albums. From the backing singers on the Chapin albums I discovered Shawn Colvin (and living in the UK I was never going to discover her any other way!). When CMT Europe came on the satellite/cable I started watching it to find Chapin videos and also found singers like Nanci Griffith and Kathy Mattea. CMT Europe had Dar's As Cool As I Am on heavy rotation at one point which made me buy Mortal City one day and then The Honesty Room the next day. Completely separately, Folk Roots magazine had an interview with Shawn Colvin which discussed her producing The Tide and my first Lucy album was then bought. Cry Cry Cry came as a pleasant surprise since at that time only Shawn and Lucy were connected in my mind. Strange how things connect. In Tom's defense, he DID put a smiley there. It was just a gentle rib... We all know sharon's a bit obsessive, but that's sharon and it's ok. :) <- SMILEY! I don't think we need to get all busted up about it. Hello fellow listers! I apologize for the 'cross-post' to both the Lucy & Richard list but I needed to see if anyone on either list might be able to help me out. I am going to the Outpost In The Burbs show on Feb. 2nd (Lucy & Richard) and was wondering if someone else is going that might be able to squeeze me into their car? I promise to be a great 'road buddy'! I live in Queens, NYC. But I can get to Manhattan or Brooklyn if anyone is leaving from there. Please contact me at dscully73@hotmail.com if you could help me. I have never been to the Outpost venue before and I'm a bit apprehensive about traveling alone. Thanks everyone & take care!! I first saw her this past July 5th in Haddon Heights, NJ, she played a free show there as part of the Camden County Parks Rec. program, and I just fell in love with her music....well speaking of falling in love, my first Lucy show also happened to be my first date with my boyfriend Anthony, what a great first date right? :) Well we went to see Lucy a few months ago again at the Keswick in Glenside, PA for a benefit concert for the Philly Food Bank and now we are going once again this Saturday we are soooo very excited, we've decided Lucy in our "Good Luck Relationship Charm" and it's time for our next fix! :) I'm planning telling him how wonderful our time together has been over the past 6 months has been at the Lucy show, Hopefully she'll play one of our fav songs Scorpion, what better time right? :) I'm so excited for a wonderful show! I got lucky! I bought the last two tickets for the Outpost 02.02.01 gig. My wife likes LK & RS, and I make a deal with her by taking her out to dinner before the show. There's a cool Thai restaurant on Bloomfield Ave that we like. RS has a gig at the Rosendale Cafe on 01.30.01. Any chance LK will be there too? :> Paul ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 18:45:53 EST From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Outpost SEE you at the biggest event of the year so far... thanks to harvey and the outposters for this one... and now you capped off the season... i have been waiting since september for this one... who sings first.. betcha a coke- richard opens for LUCY.... aint that the truth... sharon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 18:47:12 EST From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] the life you wish you had You all want me to get a life... and then youd want the set list.... sharon friday night im going nowhere all the lights are turning green to red turning over tv stations situations running through my head saturday im running wild with all the lights turning red to green moving through the crowds im pushing chemicals are running through my bloodstream babylon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jan 2001 21:39:14 -0500 (EST) From: "The Myers Family" Subject: [lucy-list] What would you do?
