All Lucy, all the time! Two dozen songs! New stuff and old favourites! A two hour wait from doors opening until Lucy took the stage was made more palatable by the small number of seats and tables in front of stage, since we'd been led to believe the downstairs of Jazz Cafe was a standing area. It pays to be there on time! The usual suspects at a London concert were there: Paul Tan and Sharon, Adi, Matt, Jon. And of course Kay and myself, marking our own one year night. Lucy had Zev Katz on bass for the night, and he complemented her beautifully. Apparently, Lucy guested on Woman's Hour on Radio 4 through the week, and was heard singing by none other than Bryan Ferry, of Roxy Music fame, currently recording a solo album. He mentioned to his bass player about this woman with the fantastic voice, who commented "I'm having dinner with her tonight". One Zev Katz! To cut a long story short, Lucy is in the studio today for the second day running, recording harmonies for, as she put it, *Mr* Ferry! We suspected the guy sitting on stage right next to the stool and monitor for the piano would get a bit of a shock when Lucy strolled over to play Just You Tonight, and that was indeed the case! As always, Lucy was thrilled to be here, and didn't stop short of expressing her sentiments. I have to say that the venue was not the best ... less intimate than the Borderline, and the dining section upstairs was the source of the odd intrusive noise from time to time. The downstairs section was pretty full, but I'd guess there was a similar crowd to the Borderline last year. The sound was excellent though. The tour seems to be a little more high profile than before. I don't remember a representative from Flem Tam accompanying her at UK gigs. Certainly not so publicly. Kay and I spoke with Lucy afterwards, and she wished us a happy anniversary. We dropped less than subtle hints that she should make it back for our 2nd! Again Lucy, thanks for everything. See you soon. Dave. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2000 23:08:46 -0000 From: "kmelmoth" Subject: [lucy-list] Re. Jazz Cafe A few points to add to Dave's account of the gig at the Jazz Cafe: The complete failure of the announcement guy to get Lucy's name right, causing much laughter; Lucy's lack of comprehension of the reaction to the news that she'd been on 'Women's Hour' on the Radio earlier in the week; Lucy has a 'celebrity' fan! As Dave and I were hanging back after the show to speak to Lucy I noticed somebody who looked very much like actor Kenneth Cranham. I was fairly sure it was him, and then I heard him speak to somebody, which sealed it. Somebody made a comment about how great Lucy was, and he replied enthusiastically in the affirmative! Obviously very few of you will know who some obscure British actor is, so take a look at the following links, if you feel so inclined! http://www.deepintheheart.com/cast.html http://aol.eonline.com/Facts/People/0%2C12%2C3708%2C00.html Kay ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2000 18:26:54 EST From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] london congrats to dave and kay for another year.. and Just you tonight was a hit.. that was an incredible set list and the stories would make me give up my citizenship no lucy DONT DO it.. congrats to the DOC for her good fortune.. and MORE BAKED GOODS... where is she next....who is singing with now... sharon on to the frogger at some point. we need a map its xmas time in washington.. but you and me and cisco know its going straight to hell so come back emma goldman rise up old joe hill the barricades are going up but they cant break our will come back malcolm x and martin luther king we're marching into selma as the bells of freedom ring.. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2000 19:45:59 -0500 (EST) From: "colorspace" Subject: [lucy-list] Bryan Ferry/Jazz Cafe I can't believe it! Lucy singing harmonies with Bryan Ferry. I love Bryan Ferry....I love Lucy! The two of them singing together must sound terrific. Any mention of a release date on Mr Ferry's solo cd? Anyone know when Lucy is coming out west again??? I mean the real west, the Northwest. I need another Lucy Fix. Thanks to Dave and Kay for my enviousness of what sounded like a truly great night. Also, Congratulations on your anniversary!
