Heads South I drove down to the Sundilla Concert Series in Auburn, AL last night to see Carrie Newcomer ( http://www.dwood.com/sundilla/ ). While checking the website for the address, I noticed that Lucy K. is going to be there on Feb. 11. A little more research revealed that Lucy is making a rare swing through the South, with dates in Alabama, Mississippi, and North Carolina. If you want to see her in the South, go the extra mile and see her at Sundilla. This is a combination Unitarian church and art gallery that holds about 150 people, located a few blocks from Auburn University. Great acoustics, great atmosphere, and friendly people. The only drawback is that they don't sell advance tickets. That's usually not a problem, but you might have to get there pretty early to be assured of a seat for Lucy's show. By the way, does anyone know how so many Unitarian churches became homes away from home for itinerant folk singers? I am on the Dar and Richard Lists (and the semi-secret guitar list) and I finally broke down and signed up for Lucy too! Anyways I saw Lucy on Saturday at Mc Cabes in Los Angeles. She was great as always. I delivered a card from one of her Eastern fans and a Hello from Sharon G (Sharon, Lucy sends a BIG hello right back at ya). I am a bad list member and never write down songs played, hopefully someone more responsible was there too. She did play two new songs and said to expect a new album from her around late summer 2001. She played about half the show with a friend of hers named Matt Cartsonis. Matt is a studio musician and played guitar and mandolin. He also apparently plays banjo and accordian. He was a hoot and it was fun to see her interact with him. The opener Brian Joseph was really fun too. He is on his way to the middle of the country so if any of you out there can, go check him out. He plays personal and political songs. He is a big cute goofy kind of guy. I am sure most people would be charmed by him. I was. =) E ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V2 #274 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
