In addition to the Joan Baez article, there was a great article about the work that Anne Dalin (who is of course an active member of this list) and her partner Diana St. John have been doing. Anne, who has been organizing fund raisers for charities for many years, has teamed up with Diana to form Heartstrings Promotions which will be putting on a series of concerts over the next few months in NY, NJ, and other Eastern states, with a portion of the ticket revenue going to benefit various food banks. The headliners for these concerts are Lucy, John Gorka, guitar greats Alex de Grassi and Michael Manring and Windham Hill founder Will Ackerman. (Separately there are Rockapella and Cherish the Ladies shows.) Obviously, these shows are designed to be fabulous musical events, as well as helping to support food banks. The thought of going to see Lucy and supporting food banks at the same time sure seems like it could fit a bunch of us. It was great to see Anne and Diana so publicly congratulated for their work. Further info is available at the Heartstrings website: http://www.heartstringspromotions.com Harvey ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2000 17:11:54 -0400 From: "Martha P. Trachtenberg" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] New York Times-Part 2 I have to weigh in on this one; usually I lurk . . . Anne and Diana are remarkable women. They are working like demons on this concert series and yes, Harvey, it is a joy to see them publicly feted. They deserve it. Something other listers may not know about Anne: A few years ago, she put together a collection of humorous pieces by women writers called "Creme de la Femme." The proceeds went to three women's charities; not a CENT to Anne, nor did she ask for it. She did it entirely out of the goodness of her heart, while she was working another full-time job, and now a second volume is in the works. In the meantime, I strongly recommend that my fellow listers hie themselves to their libraries and check out volume one; it's marvelous. Thanks for the info re Anne, Diana, and Heartstrings, Harvey; hope this finds you well. cheers, Martha ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2000 01:22:54 EDT From: Odie2535@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] New York Times-Part 2 I'm going to see Lucy tomorrow night in Davis, CA. I'm new to this list and to be truthful don't really understand much of what is written. In any case, I am excited about the chance to listen to her in person. I plan to take my camera and take some photos if she will allow that after the performance. I am 47 years old and feel 20 when I listen to her sing. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2000 02:36:34 EDT From: Pfleary@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy in Northern CA-Hooray! Read a good article about Lucyka in the Marin County weekly alt rag The Pacific Sun today. It was a good article and provided a fairly good synopsis of her career(s), although there was no mention of Cry, Cry , Cry. She will be performing here in Sebastopol Thursday and then Friday in Berkeley. Dad is scheduled to appear at both events. So it will be a good, clean fun family kind of show with songs about Pi and no slut stories ;-). I'm looking forward to it.
