I wasn't even going to go at ALL; someone tried very hard to get me to blow off the birthday party I had to attend so I could come see Lucy, and when that wouldn't work, he finally said "so come after the party." Soooooo, even though it was an hour away from where I was, I drove out to Concord after the party, worrying whether I would make it before the end of the show. I came in halfway through By Way of Sorrow, and was there for Scorpion, and Guinevere and then the two encores: Mary Magdalene and If You Could See. Joining her was the unbelievable and inimitable Duke Levine, and on back-up vocals, Jennifer Kimball. Duke bravely undertook Mary Magdalene, which he "had never even heard before" and did an amazing, amazing job, and Jennifer is one of my all-time favorite back-ups for Lucy. Lucy was in fantastic voice (not to mention wired and bubbly), the sound was jaw-dropping, and the crowd was great. I wish I could have seen the entire show, as it had to have kicked major butt, judging from the brief portion I was able to catch. The oddest part of the evening came in the foyer after the show, where at least five people asked me if I was Lucy's cousin (who happened to be in the audience). Trust me when I say I look NOTHING like Lucy...I look like an Irish shiksa (though I am neither)!!
