So can you or anyone else tell us any more about this project? New songs? Old songs? Lucy singing harmonies or doing a song of her own? If CD's will be available and through who? I know these are not easy questions for you or anyone else to answer so early on....but if you heard it on the radio then someone obviously knows more than we do. Frankly, with Lucy's rigorous touring schedule (it often looks like "leave Thursday, back Monday", for weeks on end) I wonder HOW she (or anyone else for that matter) could find the time and/or energy to make new connections with new musicians and do something out of the ordinary. Scheduling actual sessions together must be a real bear! I bet she listens to a lot of cassette tapes in rent-a-cars in doing her collaborations! Richard Shindell told a story once about composing some song (I can't remember which one, but it ended up on one of his recent CDs) while driving a car down the turnpike. I mean, holding his guitar while driving! Now that's one way to make the most of travel time.... The idea was to mix the Bill Monroe sound with klezmer, jazz and other influences. Lucy and Jennifer Kimball are the vocalists, and when they get going together at full blast, watch out. Seth Rogovoy wrote and good (and representative) review a couple of years ago: http://www.berkshireweb.com/rogovoy/concerts/strangers.html It is indeed difficult to coordinate so many schedules, which is why they don't appear more often. If a date is announced in your town, my advice is to postpone your wedding, quit your boring job, or do anything else necessary to attend. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 13:32:10 EDT From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] klezmer lucy with tony and andy statman is a gem.. i havent heard it- traditional song with the masters of mandolin and andys statman is a KING among klezmer clarinetists.. in the past 10 years there has been a resurfacing of klezmer music- the klezmer conservatory orchestra, klezmatics, brave new world all are involved in the KLEZMER Kollege outside of chicago in summer Yitzak perlman took these groups to europe to countries where the jewish population was non existing and as there is now a renewal in jewish things.. klezmer is popular.. you want to talk about dancing in the aisles go to a klezmer show.. same sex dancing is prevelent.. sharonG ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 21:12:12 EDT From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] who wants a DVD player.. as i was travelling in four burrows, on three bridges, 5 highways and parkways, i heard an announcement ...free DVD player.. just name three songs related to one another through you and you are in .. for the drawing go to WWW.WFUV.ORG and sign on.. i did my three songs and lets see if we can get a lucy set.. played come on no one covers like lucy... mary magdelene hey three versions of mary magdelene.. cool im over there to sign up.. again sharon may 12 angels guard you while you sleep maybe thats a waste of angels i dont know paul simon ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V2 #260 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
