I thought "it can't get any better than this." Now, before I get into part two, I have a disclaimer to make.....I, unlike my partner in crime, the divine Ms. G, have never written in to report on covers of 10-Year-Night that are, at best, shall we say, unsubstantiated (and at worst, borderline psychotic :-)? With this in mind, imagine my surprise when the opening act, Brenda Evans, for her second song mentions that she is going to sing something by one of her favorite songwriters whom she respects and admires and loves so much.......LUCY KAPLANSKY. Neglecting to gauge the audience appropriately (they were a rather sedate crowd), *I* hear Lucy's name and let out a rather large whoop and start clapping, which meets with TOTAL silence. Brenda then turns in my direction and asks "you've heard of her, have you?" :-) It wasn't 10-Year-Night, but it was a beautiful, beautiful cover of The Tide. This was my first time hearing Brenda, and she reminds me a lot of a PG-13 Cheryl Wheeler...her voice has a very similar quality to it as Cheryl's. Brenda nailed this song (with her drummer doing the back-up vocals and percussion), and, as I told her afterwards, she totally made my night. We then spent a good portion of the intermission waxing poetic in further homage to the DOC. That's my Lucy news for the evening......unless you'd count Jenny Reynolds deciding to end with 10-Year-Night after hearing what a great job Brenda did on The Tide (just kidding! :-) Peace, Sheila ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V2 #257 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
