Glad you enjoyed the book, doesn't it make you want to run out and buy more of his stuff............there was a great NY Times Sunday Magazine cover story on Sherman Alexie a couple of years ago that was great, I wonder if it is accessible in an archive on the net somewhere............. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Oct 2000 09:38:17 -0500 From: Timothy Bruce Subject: [lucy-list] I don't want to be part of anyone's nightmare! >>I believe Lucy said her role is a teeny tiny cameo, as a street musician, so perhaps it is not even noted in the book as a full-fledged character.....<< Yah, I guess I knew that....and I figured it would be in New York because Lucy sort of embodies the (positive) energy of this, her adopted hometown. That's why I was sort of saddened when the band didn't get off their home turf and to the streets of New York until about 80% of the way through the book.....and it is literally a nightmare for them. I have Lucy in dreams a lot....mostly pleasant conversational dreams. I don't wanna have her in a nightmare! On second thought, there is a quick road trip to Seattle to compete in a contest for a $1000 prize. They have a lot of time to kill and end up hanging out in public places, mingling with street people and lost souls. Maybe Lucy could be a Seattle Grunge Folk Street Urchin. I will gladly lend hear one of my tattered plaid flannel shirts for the occasion! Honestly though, I know all of this is highly speculative--and the last thing I wanna do is put some kind of curse on the organic unfolding of the creative and editing process. But it beats the hell out of the "speculation" going on on the Dar list these days, enit? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Oct 2000 10:55:40 EDT From: Fantine729@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] I don't want to be part of anyone's nightmare! << Maybe Lucy could be a Seattle Grunge Folk Street Urchin. >> I believe she has said that her character is indeed a Seattle folk musician....hope this saves you from nightmares Timothy!
