Actually, Lucy and John are playing with three other great guitarists --
Michael Manring, who has played on almost all of John's albums/CDs, Alex de
Grassi, and Will Ackerman. The concerts are called HeartStrings for Hunger and will
benefit 5 different foodbanks in the Northeast, as follows...
Keswick Theatre - Glenside, Pa Nov. 2rd - 8 pm Box office:

I've been listening to Eliza Gillkyson's "Hard Times In Babylon" CD for the
last week and I can tellyou, this is one hell of a talent. She's not a
newcomer, been around a long time as a member of Wolleneider's band (sp), but
I lover her voice, the music on the record is pretty cool and I bet she's
great live. While the record is decidedly uneven, it should go a long way to
making a dent in the folk music universe.

I remember last summer on the Nanci list when i asked
what a 45 was. WHat followed was not a pleasant
discussion. They got mad at the ignorance of the
youthful. It must've been jealousy of the fact that i
have my own hips. No replacements yet.

Subject: [lucy-list] "unhiding" the hidden track
The recent discussion of the hidden "I've Just Seen a Face" on the Flesh
and Bone CD makes me wonder if anyone else out there has made their own
custom Flesh and Bone CD which "unhides" the hidden track. I got tired of
not hearing the hidden track, since it is a bit difficult to cue up. Since
I have a CD burner on my PC, I decided to make my own.
If you try to do this yourself, you need to know a little bit about how CDs
are arranged, and you need something more powerful than the run-of-the-mill
easy-to-use CD duplicator software. For example, the popular Adaptec Easy
CD Creator type of software won't help you. I used a very nice tool called
CDRWIN, from Goldenhawk (see http://www.goldenhawk.com).
One way to look at CDs is by tracks. But looking at F&B by tracks doesn't
work, because Track 1 is Scorpion and you just never see the hidden song.
You have to look at the CD by sector (also known as LBA, or Logical Block
Address).
Most normal music CDs begin with Track 1 indexed about 2 seconds into the
CD, or sector 000000. But Flesh & Bone's Track 1 index is way into the
CD at 3 minutes and 43 seconds, or sector 016575.
I used CDRWIN to extract all of the data off the F&B CD by specifying a
sector extraction beginning at sector 000000. This gave me a *big* WAV file
of the entire CD -- including the hidden track. Then I created a new index
file which specified Track 1 to be at sector 000000, Track 2 to be at
sector 016575, and so on. Then I burned a new CD. The result is a custom
Flesh & Bone CD with 13 tracks, instead of 12 -- and it starts playing with
Track 1, "I've Just Seen a Face".
I even went so far as to scan the CD jewel case back, and edit it to show
the new track and new numbering. See it (for a limited time) at
http://www.ultranet.com/~tspine/lucy_back.jpg

I second that!!!!!
So are crowded schedules, mine that is... I've tried to find a way
to be in Dublin on Dec.9 for this year's best house concert ever by
the incredible man from Milwaukee, Peter Mulvey, in London Dec. 10
for what I'm sure will be the best Lucy show of the year :-) and back
in Germany by 9 a.m. the follwing morning for something I can't cancel,
but the airline-gods are not being nice to me and there is no way that
sort of a travel arrangement could work and thus it looks like I
won't be able to make it to Lucy's London gig. :-( Dave, I want a full
report of course!

I'll be sure to oblige, sister! :-)
Given that Kay and I are joining Katrin in Dublin for the Peter Mulvey
house concert on the Saturday before Lucy in London, and are rather
hectically flying back the afternoon of the Jazz Cafe gig, it looks
like we won't be around for any pre-concert meal or gathering, but we
will see you all at the venue.
If anyone wants to organize something prior to the gig, then feel
free! As Kay won't be attending, there's no need to go for pizza! ;-)
Dave.
