While I do find it annoying, especially when they're long, I should have just sent her a private email explaining that List etiquette normally frowns on cross-posting. Did I put that right, RonG? But I'm a grumpy, cynical, old fart curmedgeon and I lost my temper, as you all witnessed. FYI, Renee and I have made nice-nice and there are no hard feelings between us. I'm sorry, Harvey, if there is no actual Lucy content in this post. You can flog me when next we meet. And Rick L., on the odd chance you actually read all this drivel, I miss ya, ya big lug. Sorry I didn't make it out to Colorado like I said I was--cash flow problems, what can I say? Well, "most of us" is never all of us. I never noticed any cross posting, which probably means I'm in the folk-music-list-underaccessed crowd. But an interesting song could be writ about someone who gets frustrated when all the lists they read contain the same input :-). Sorta bluesy 1984 folk kinna tune, spose. The Lucika content is that this list seems to be one where these complaints are arrising--how many of the other lists have the same problem? I always knew it was there but never had a CD player that could backtrack. I like it a lot, but don't hit me, I like the Paperboys version better. It's fast and fun. :) Speaking of Ms. Lucika Plansky,I finally was able to watch her episode of "The Artists Profile" thanks to working at a radio station with a public tv station attached to it (yay). I thought the content was really fascinating. I loved all the old pictures of Lucy singing with Shawn Colvin and others in the 80s. They cracked me up! It was inspiring to hear about how she made it through so much school especially now as I'm plowing through my senior year of college and just thinking about grad school. I think it's a great resource to any Lucy fan so go get it! Or call your PBS station and make them play it! And to those who saw it, you know that picture of Cry Cry Cry with two random people in it? I KNOW THEM! That picture was taken by a friend when Cry^3 was at KRCB in Dec 1998. It was certainly a surprise when that picture popped up. I said rather excitedly "Hey, that's Robin and Chris!" (I think I scared the dog). OK gotta go. Anybody going to see Lucy at the PowerTRIP in Sebastopol at the end of October? katie http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~stohlman/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 12:46:30 EDT From: SpecGlobal@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] Eliza Gilkyson Jack Murray posted on the Folkmusic List: "Some highlights from last Saturday's Boston Folk Festival. I was working, of a sort, and didn't get to see everything. ----------------snip---------------------- Eliza Gilkyson, where the hell has she been? She created the most buzz during the day. She is a great talent that needs to plan a long east coast tour. ----------------snip------------------------- Last Friday night Eliza opened for Tish Hinajosa at the Outpost in the Burbs in Montclair, NJ. before she headed up to Boston. I had heard some great things about her, but wasn't that familiar with her music and had never seen her perform. I, as well as everyone else in the audience, was blown away. Everyone here has got to know that this is a mouthful from me, but Eliza's performance hit me in a way that was very similar to the way Lucy hit me the first time I saw her. She has an incredibly beautiful voice that carries with it an emotional and spiritual content that is positively breathtaking. Her songs are fabulous, she plays guitar beautifully and projects this amazing kind of inner force and sensitivity which is just totally compelling. If anyone recalls the thread we had about "emotional resonance" a while back, that is exactly what I am talking about here. I understand that Eliza has a large following in the west and southwest. I'd love to hear comments from anyone out there who has seen her. Eliza has a new cd coming out on Red House Records in early October called Hard Times in Babylon. She performed a number of the songs on Friday night and they were all incredible. She sold out of all of the albums that she had brought with her before I could get to the cd table, so I didn't get a copy, but I ordered one as soon as I got back home. I know that this is Eliza's first album on Red House, but Bob Feldman why have you not told us about her yet and, as Jack asked, "where the hell has she been?"
