The purpose of this post is to clarify what I think the Lucy-List is and should be. It is only my opinion. It is not an attack on anyone else. It is not intended to be a criticism of anyone else. Not even remotely so. It is intended to help end a recurring thread that I do not particularly like and which I think may make others very uncomfortable. It is a post that I have stopped myself from sending in the past for fear that it would continue a discussion like this. The Lucy-List is an unmoderated discussion list. I have always thought that the purpose of the List was to post information that is primarily about Lucy and her music, but that the List also gave all of us a forum in which to discuss other things that may be more tangentially related to Lucy but which are related to music in general. I think that that is quite a broad area of information to cover, and we have seen a wide spectrum of information posted here. Some posts are more interesting than others. Every post reflects the individual style and personality of the person who wrote it. I think that given the diverse membership of this List, that is probably exactly what should be expected. I do not cross-post, except in unusual circumstances where I think something is also of interest to people who may not be on this List; I do not (intentionally at least) send a post with spelling, capitalization, or grammatical errors; and I try hard not to post about things that are not somehow related to Lucy or music. With that said, I do not believe that either my style or any of my posts are more valid or better than those of anyone else. It's just the way I do it. It is quite possible that there are people out there who see my name on a post and immediately hit the Delete button. I don't know and quite frankly I don't care. I try to do my best in posting things that are relevant and hopefully of interest to the people on this List. I think that most, if not all, of us do the same. I don't know how successful my efforts have been, but I will say that I am grateful for all of the postings of others that have given me a great deal of enjoyment as well as knowledge, and, in a number of cases, helped form or strengthen friendships. I think it is incumbent upon all of us to post relevant information here but do not think that it is appropriate to make anyone uncomfortable. I have a delete button for things that I choose not to read and a scroll bar to pass through things that don't interest, bore, or annoy me. I don't like using them (and almost never do), but I would much rather delete or scroll through something that doesn't interest me rather than miss something because someone was afraid to post for fear of being criticized. (was Re: [lucy-list] A Reluctant Post) Whilst ignoring the obvious irony of a one line reply to a 50 line quote on list content :-) Dare I asked what provoked Irritatedron and George to post their comments, I can't say I've noticed any posts recently that might make them put electron to screen. It's not whether their posts are right or wrong, I'm more concerned that I'm not receiving all the posts that are being sent to the list. As a rough guide I've picked up 9 posts since the 25th Sept, is that about right? This is probably old news to most of you. I thought I would share this information with some newer Lucy fans. The hidden track is before the 1st song,"Scorpion". You have to hold the music search button(I used to work for Sony and I'm not sure if that's the name) and scroll to -3.19. I feel like a little kid who just bought a new "45". Some of you may wonder what a "45" is. The sad truth is, I remember "78"s. She came back to Chicago on Tuesday night. She was *great*. (She forgot a couple words, but I admire anyone who can continue on and appear so unruffled! Not to mention anyone who will perform a song that is not even finished yet.) I've yet to be let down by her performance or by her gratitude while greeting folks afterward. Very cool. She should play Chicago more often. As I can't keep them, I have no set list, although I wouldn't be surprised if someone could provide one. I do, however, have a comment about something I *do* remember. She did "You're Still Standing There" by Steve Earle, which I'd not heard before (and boy, was I proud of myself for hunting it down -- she didn't reveal the title -- all by myself in the internet). It's a great song and she sang it superbly despite breaking a string during the first verse or chorus. That and "Broken Wings" should definitely be considered for that next album. So, until her tour path crosses with mine again... ~Kelli ~Kelli ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 23:53:40 -0500 From: Rob Knautz Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Hidden Track & Chicago Show(s) Oh man, I never knew that was there. It's like having "new" Lucy, though I do like The Paperboys version a little better. I will agree that the Chicago show was pretty incredible, I love Schuba's for seeing a show like that (or any show). That is the best show I've seen there since Buddy & Julie earlier this year. Lucy is great about being accessible after the shows, I talked with her for over a minute and it was like talking to an old friend, I kinda felt guilty about taking so much time when there were so many people waiting. As a side note to Chicago people, Buddy & Julie are opening for Emmylou Harris on 10/6 at the Vic, Buddy will also be playing in Emmylou's band and Julie will do some vocals as she did when Emmylou was on Letterman a couple weeks ago. Josh Ritter who opened for her was pretty good, I didn't buy his CD but probably will when he comes back in November (unless he comes during my trip to St. Paul for Richard & the Nields). He has three MP3's on his website and I would recommend listening to them, especially Hotel Song. Less than 2 days left to Dar!!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 02:31:17 EDT From: Pfleary@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Hidden Track Thanks Donna. I didn't know it was there. I remember 78 speed still existing on phonograph players when I was a kid and my second grade teacher Sister Ursula had some 78's we listened to in music class. It Was Willie What Got Drownded in the Deep Blue Sea is the one I remember most. Anyway, it was cool finding a new track to listen to.
