I am a psychology and literature major attending the University of North Carolina at Asheville. I have been a Lucy fan for about 4 years now. My favorite musicians include Lucy (of course), Nanci Griffith, Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, Ani Difranco, Bach, Iris Dement, The Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Danielle Howle, and others. My intersts include psychology, literature, music, astronomy, nature, African American culture, Southern culture, Galileian studies, atmospheric science, activism, and poetry. I've had the pleasure of seeing Lucy about 10 times, and it is always a great show. In fact, I saw her a few weeks ago at Folk Fest, and she was especially wonderful. "Guilty as Sin", was exceptional! Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I hope everyone had an exquisite weekend. Sincerely, caroline ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Sep 2000 11:46:16 EDT From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] premier thanks harvey- i knew someone out there, someone could clear up the 15 year night story.. and so it is .. they met in september.. or hooked up in sept..married in june.. and its the bomb that lucy still acknowedges the night the met...15 years later.. let alone immoralizes in a song... now on to the premier.. i think in the event that LUCY continues to be in the film.. the lucy list get s section of the theater at the premier.. the opening should be at the angelika.. out coolest art film house here.. where smoke signals broke records and then lucy should be asked to play at the premier- in the middle of the room with the high ceilings.. and we get to go- that will be very NY very cool... thanks harvey.. been asking about you.. sharon Let me ride on the wall of death one more time Let me ride on the wall of death one more time You can waste your time on the other rides but this is the nearest to being alive Let me take my chances on the Wall of Death You can go with the crazy people in the crooked house You can fly away on the rocket or spin in the mouse The tunnel of love might amuse you And Noah's Ark might confuse you but Let me take my chances on the Wall of Death ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Sep 2000 17:33:08 +0100 From: "Dave McKay" Subject: [lucy-list] Ten Year Not Quite? > its the bomb that lucy still acknowedges the night the met... > 15 years later.. let alone immoralizes in a song... "Immoralizes"? You mean she's exaggerating when she sings "later on on your kitchen floor ..."?! In actuality, they just had a cup of coffee and a bagel? ;-) Dave. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Sep 2000 14:40:03 EDT From: FISH1994@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] premier I love that idea about the Angelika........see if you can make that work!!!!!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2000 07:58:24 +0000 (GMT) From: jeremy.briggs@baesystems.com Subject: [lucy-list] Lucy in UK - Glasgow Date The Ramshorn Theatre in Glasgow is advertising Lucy on Sunday 17 December at 8:00pm. The tickets are 10 pounds (8 for concessions). Ticket Centre number is 0141 287 5511 and the Ramshorn number is 0141 552 3489. Email is ramshorn.theatre@strath.ac.uk. Lucy played there last year, the first of her two Glasgow concerts in 1999 and I posted this review to the Dar list back in the days when there were fewer Ia(i)ns and Jenny was a mere tadpole(!). See you all there Jeremy ************************************************************** LUCY KAPLANSKY - 31 MAY 1999 Lucy played the Ramshorn Theatre in Glasgow on Monday 31 May 1999. The Dar-List contingent of Lesley, Steven, Pam, Kathy and myself were virtually first in the queue waiting for the doors to open and when they did we were able to nab the front row centre table with enough seats for all of us. The theatre itself is part of the University of Strathclyde and is used as their Drama Centre. It is actually a converted church which seats 100 and Lucy had sold the place out as part of Glasgow's Big Big Country Festival. With no stage as such, just an area at the front on the same level as the audience, Steven and I could have spent the entire evening with our feet resting on the artist's loudspeakers, we were that close. Lucy appeared in her ubiquitous black leather jacket to discover that the opening act singer was considerably taller than her and that the microphone was pointing over her head. So after a fiddle to get the mike into a more appropriate position she was off into both C3's and her own songs. Her attempt at a Glasgow greeting met with some amusement but she soon got into her stride by suggesting that the term Glaswegian sounded like an alien race from Star Trek. She seemed to enjoy herself after she had got the measure of the audience, Glasgow audiences being notorious for giving performers a hard time, and even told us that she could see everyone smiling at her in the small auditorium. In amongst her own songs we were treated to That's Mathematics and The Song About Pi from her father and the fact that after she mentioned her father's e-mail address at an Alaskan concert he had received some 50 e-mails which had delighted him. Later on, when she got thirsty, she asked for a drink from the bar to be brought over to her with the comment that wasn't it sacrilegious to drink alcohol in a church. Other than the stories about her father, she told us the story about her mother phoning her in a taxi about the new album, how much she enjoyed being on the C3 tour bus and denied that the infamous kitchen floor incident ever took place. After her encore she was out almost immediately to sign autographs and to chat, apologising that the cover of Ten Year Night was not really the right colour to sign autographs in black pen on. The meet and greet seemed to surprise a lot of the audience but it certainly increased the CD sales once they realised what was going on and a lot of people were impressed that she was asking them questions and personalising their autographs. So a great concert and a good night was had by all (see what you missed Phil). Roll on the next UK Dar tour so we can do it all over again.
