She then introduced Ten Year Night and said that the next night (Thursday 9/21) would be Rick and her Fifteen Year Night (meaning the 15th anniversary of the night that Rick pulled Lucy out into the street and kissed her because she asked him to after which, of course, they went to visit the kitchen floor which was two flights above the grocery store). She then said that because Rick wasn't there, that on that particular night (last Wednesday night), Ten Year Night was somewhat of a sad song because Rick wasn't at the show. How's that Sharon? In any event, Rick, Lucy wasn't the only one who missed you dear professor. As for the show itself, it was absolutely terrific as always. TheTurning Point was sold out with people standing around the bar, and it was great to see a few friends who I only get to see in the finest of musical places. Lucy looked beautiful and sounded better than ever. I don't want to repeat too much of what others have already said about Lucy's set list, but I do want to mention her cover of Mary Gauthier's great song Evangeline. This was the first time that I have heard her do this song and it was awesome. It always amazes me to see how completely Lucy is able to get into other people's songs and 'become' that song as if it were her own. She nailed the essence of Evangeline with the same degree of perfection that she captured the core of Guinivere and Mary M. It was a fabulous show. (By the way Paul, I'm pretty sure that the "tiny acoustic guitar" that John Putnam played is called a tipple.) The new material is getting stronger and stronger and Lucy is likely getting really close to having enough material for the next album. Guilty as Sin (the newest of the new songs--it still has one "still to be written line") is awesome, as are Nowhere, Time To Go and Don't Mind Me. Red House has another hit in the making. In addition to anxiously anticipating a new album, I will be first in line (likely with Sharon and some baked goods) to see the movie Reservation Blues if Lucy's part stays in the film. She said that her song and lines are still in the script.
