For anyone in the New York area, the Red Cedar Soundstage will present Vermont singer/songwriter and Alcazar recording artist Rachel Bissex next Saturday (September 10) at 7:30 PM. Tickets for my House Concert are $10, and wine, coffeee and dessert will be served. Rachel is a good friend of Dar's (Dar sings harmony on Rachel's second album, "I Used To Be Nice") and shares Ms. Williams' quirky (I know Dar hates that word, but it works) approach to songwriting. She's terrific and has yet to play on Long Island. For more info, or to RSVP since seats are limited, email me at RockinRonD@Aol.Com. Thanks! We now bring you back you your regularly scheduled Lucika hysteria. My computer at home crashed, and it hasn't been fun fixing. If anyone has sent email to my home account, I apologize for not responding. I had a grand 'ole time this past Wednesday at the Turning Point Cafe in Piermont, NY. Up first was Terence Martin. He has a heavy voice that lies somewhere between Greg Brown and Richard Shindell. He played "Folding Chairs", and "On The Seventh Day". I was surprised when he didn't perform "Independence Day". Terence is having a CD Release party on 11.02.2000 at the TP. After a short intermission, Lucy came out. She wore a new black leather jacket (I overheard someone whisper 'Versace'), with a bright white v shaped shirt underneath. Lucy was in great spirits, and she told funny stories about her mother, missing Rick, and "Survivor". John Putnam complemented Lucy very well with electric guitar, and a tiny acoustic guitar that I forgot the name of. The setlist: Open A Heart (Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained) (still not sure of this title) End Of The Day One Good Reason Guilty As Sin (new) Nowhere Ten Year Night Scorpion Don't Mind Me (Play Your Song For Me). Lucy indicated that the movie is called "Reservation Blues" Tine To Go (new) Evangeline (Mary Gauthier) That's Mathematics A Song About Pi Just You Tonight (Piano was not turned on, and it was still beautiful) Five In The Morning Turn The Lights Back On The Swimming Song (great jam by John on this one) Promise Me By Way Of Sorrow E: Guinevere E: The Ballad Of Mary Magdalene After the show, Lucy was sweating profusely. The crowd was lively, and clapped along to "Scorpion" The new songs are wonderful, and it was great to see Turning Point sold out again. See you all again at the Mt. Kisco show in November. Anyone else going to Jonatha Brooke on Saturday night at Fez? See you there! Thankfully, some of you out there were probably editors in your other lives. The date of the Rachel Bissex show at the Red Cedar Soundstage is next Saturday, September 30th at 7:30 PM, not September 10th as I mistakenly typed. As I was promptly told, September 10th has come and gone. But you knew that. I think. Mea Culpa. Lucy says that she has a song in the upcoming film, "Reservation Blues", written by Sherman Alexie, a Native American author. I have his short story collection entitled "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight In Heaven" (how is that for a great title), which is a compilation of short stores about life on the "rez" (I highly recommend it.) In any event, she has a cameo appearance in the film as well, appearing as (big surprise) a folk singer......... On singing "Ten Year Night" she commented that it was the night before her "Fifteen Year Night", which kind of got her in a sentimental mood, since Rick was not in attendance, but she sang it beautifully.............. Cheryl Wheeler suggests she call her new guitar "Little Ricky" in honor of her hubby, what do you think?!......... And.......I got a chance to talk to John Putnam after the show, he is sooooooooooooo nice, I mentioned I had seen him at two of the recent Richard Shindell shows, I think he was surprised or charmed or whatever, to be recognized........and he says he is really delighted to be playing with such great talents as Lucy and Richard..... anyhoo.......I'll try to make it to Mt. Kisco in November.......... Can you send it again? <> I'm confused because when I saw Lucy at Appel Farm Festival on June 3rd she commented that her "Twelve Year Night" was that Mon June 5th. Maybe I heard wrong considering I had my 5 & 7yr old sons with me. Any comments? And she said, this would be probably the only time she had sung it without Rick to hear her do it......and hoped she could get thru the song in one piece!!!!!!!! Needless to say, she sounded lovely. ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V2 #242 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
