I have gotten quite a kick out of some of them so I thought I would share mine as well. Well, last night as I made my way from Manhattan to Queens, in the midst of rush hour traffic(heightened due to the Summit Meeting at The United Nations Building), I popped Lucy's CD "Flesh and Bone" into my player and hoped her angelic voice would help me forget the fact that I sitting in traffic as far as the eye could see. Well, as the song "Edges" played, I was singing along and after a few choruses I laughed out loud at myself for what I 'thought' the lyric was. The lyric is: "I am your amulet, wish upon me". I had been singing " I am your AMBULANCE". As soon as I realized what I thought I had heard, I was cracking up and immediately thought of the lists and how you would all get a kick out of making fun of me for this one! So, go ahead, I'm ready for the ribbing! I have to say, misheard lyrics can be a lot of fun. Those of you that have experienced this know exactly what I mean! Well, I can say that Lucy certainly did help me survive the grueling hour of car fumes and honking horns! Hooray for folk music and all of it's wondrous remedies!! *hoping everyone will continue sharing more misheard lyrics!** Renee-911-Polgar _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Where's my post, dad gummit! I posted it five hours ago.... Batgirl's appear to have gone straight through. Maybe my post has been intercepted by the CIA's ECHELON internet satellite surveillance system! Please note also that the review of the RMFF I'd mentioned in mty post was not from the Lucy List but rather from the Dar list (Jess913a on August 21st). Here's a shortcut to it. http://grassyhill.org/stax/dar-list/index.cgi?i=966880809_jess913a ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2000 16:31:33 -0400 (EDT) From: Timothy Bruce Subject: [lucy-list] vicarious road trips >>some people who subscribe are on a road trip in more ways than one. However, this is a list for the music lover<< I think any road trip that has as its focus a performance by Lucy is definitely ON-topic, no-matter how much of a travelogue it contains. This is particularly true for summer folk festivals which involve a great deal of commitment, planning, and energy in order to execute. The reviews of Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, for instance, not only had me in stitches but raised my comfort level about making that road trip in the future. Speaking of which, I was sitting around a bonfire in Minneapolis last night playing flute with some guitar players doing really obscure stuff....(like Fleetwood Mac's "Monday Morning")...when one of the guitar players intimated that he had attended Rocky Mountain FF this year. Without him having an inkling of who I was or my unlikely passion I threw out the million dollar question: "So, with all of that talent out there at that festival (Emmy Lou Harris, Nancy Griffith, Greg Brown et. at.) who was your favorite?" He responded without hesitation, "Lucy Kaplansky!" He then launched into "Lovely Rita Meter Maid" in honor of Lucy who (I learned through this list) did it with the Nields at the close of a workshop at RMFF. He nailed ALL the chords (a feat in itself!) and I figured out the melody with time to spare and we ended it all in glorious three part harmony. A glorious moment entirely inspired by Lucy! (He also informed me that the suffix "ka" when applied to a pers! on's given name is an indication of endearment in Yiddish. Therefore Lucyka would be "my dear friend Lucy".) Lucy, my association with you has truly enriched my life. Thanks for everything! Its used in the Flemish language in Belgium, presumably in Dutch also as a term of endearment towards a child or youth. As I used to visit Belgium regularly when I was a kid I'd be called "Yanka", they had trouble with the name Iain which would be pronounced Yan. Sorry if that's boring :-) Iain ----- Original Message ----- From: Timothy Bruce To: 'Lucy-list' Sent: 07 September 2000 21:31 Subject: [lucy-list] vicarious road trips > >>some people who subscribe are on a road trip in more ways than one. > However, this is a list for the music lover<< > > I think any road trip that has as its focus a performance by Lucy is > definitely ON-topic, no-matter how much of a travelogue it contains. Apparently the LUCY-ECHELON monitoring and surveillance software holds its breath and squeals for the administrator whenever it sees the words s*bscribe or unsubscr*be. Be forewarned. My post was delayed when the excerpt I responded to had one of these offending words. An actual human had to get involved and make sure it was not a request to join, or turn tail and RUN from our illustrious ranks. I believe her to be a genuine person, with genuine feelings and genuine intentions. She has a heart as big as a house, as many listers around the globe who have received taped copies of "The Green World" can attest to. I appreciate -- and sometimes marvel at -- her undying enthusiasm toward the music and the artists who make it.
