My daughter actually got us a rocking chair from CB a few years ago for our anniversary. She had it shipped and then hid it from us until the big day. Happily, she got us the rocking chair instead of their food! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Sep 2000 12:27:06 -0700 From: patrick t power Subject: [lucy-list] Re: NY House Concerts RockinRonno wrote: <> I can vouch for the truly comfy setting of Ron's home. But they do seem to function by word of mouth, or in this case, cyber-word of mouth, and as it's all in support of live music, I say "the more, the merrier." So who and where is Patty Romanoff? Hope you had a good summer, Sharon, cheers, Martha ps: Ron's backyard is truly gorgeous. And he's a peach. Ron has taken the time and trouble to make his home open to the general public for the sole purposes of promoting music that otherwise might not be heard in the NYC / Long Island area. Who is to say that he can't use this forum as a means of communicating about his concerts to other people who just might have similar musical tastes? And who is to say that *I* can't verify the wonderful setting in which his shows will be held?!? In the lucy-list-digest of Saturday, September 2 2000 (Volume 02 : Number 221), there were no less than nine posts (including the one quoted above) that made mention of venues around the country! So, in the spirit of things, let me mention the Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse in East Lansing, Michigan. Richard Shindell will be there on September 22, Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer will be there on October 27, Vance Gilbert on November 10, and Dar Williams on March 16 . . . just to name a few. The first time, at The Southgate House in Newport, KY, was a two show evening. Lucy invited Jack up to play on some of the up tempo rockers like "don't renege on our love" and "Love is the Ride" and then eased into "Return of the Grievous Angel". You could see they were both loving it, Lucy was moving swiftly between songs to keep Jack onstage, and Jack was scrambling to figure out what she was playing. The chemistry was good and they both acknowledged the fact after the show and pledged to collaborate again. The promoter made note of that and booked them together again about a year later at the York St. Cafe, just a few blocks away in beautiful downtown Newport, KY. Jack had to borrow a car and drive all night and day to make it to the gig, but was happy to open for Lucy again. He played an inspired opening set, but bowed out after only two songs when the Doc invited him up to play. She tried to persuade him to do another, but he graciously declined. I've always enjoyed Jack's music and would encourage everyone to go out and see him.
