You get a little of Pete and Maura on the video, and some of Nanci's best original songs along with her folk favorites. Seeing an entire Nanci Griffith concert at her best (in the beautiful Paramount Theater with lots of guest stars) is a great introduction to her work. I would start with 'Little Love affairs' and possibly the first 'Other Voices, Other Rooms' album, which led me in many musical directions. While I'm off topic, has anyone heard the new Dar Williams album yet, comments please. Just start, "Lucy K's Cry friend...", then you'll be ON topic! Kristina-the fact we are all recommending albums at least seven years old tells you something about Nanci's recent output-doesn't it? I have my Nanci list drawn up (and really like the idea of the Other Voices video, for bipartisan reasons :-) On to the acquisition!! Is there anywhere I can buy her stuff "directly" as opposed to going through mega-empires? And as for LucyK's Cry friend's new album, OMG. That just about sums it up. It's a beautifully crafted piece of work, in my opinion, and has been near-constant presence in my CD player since I got it. I would go with Other Voices Other Rooms if you want Pete Kennedy. It's fresher and sunnier than Other VOices Too. Walter's suggestion of Little Love Affairs is good. Otherwise, go for FLYER. Hey walter, i think you're right about us recommending OLD albums... except Blue Roses From The Moons; that's good if you already have one OLD nanci album. jenny* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 19:32:13 +0100 From: "jenny*" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Nanci recommendations (NLC) Nanci again. She also led me to Lucy....how thankful I am for that. My first two cds were "Lonestar State of Mind" and "Little Love Affairs".....Lucy sings backup on both! Lucy's name is spelled Kaplanski on the Lonestar cd and I thought Nanci spelled it wrong. I asked Lucy about this once and she said that's how she spelled it at that time of her life. I personally like Little Love Affairs. It's so great to see some action on this list again!! Well, Richard released his album(oops, showing my age) cd....Dar released hers....now when is Lucy's??? I love Richard's and Dar's.....come on Lucy!!!
