Hey to All! Wfuv is currently playing "Another Mystery" and earlier they played "Are You Happy Now". Everyday seems to be a treat for all of us on the 3 lists!!! Hmm....hint, hint,I think a Lucy song is in order soon!!! Everyday I thank my lucky stars for this radio station, I couldn't get through the day without the daily dose of Dar, Richard and Lucy it provides me with while I'm slaving away here at work!!! It was SO divine. I don't own any of John's stuff (YET) so I can't check for myself....I was even impressed that I recognized it as John, having only heard him live twice.... Peace, Sheila echoing Marilyn (WUMB's DJ) who simply said, after playing Jess Klein's new song (Little White Dove)...."wow" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 16:46:49 EDT From: BB257@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] random query Sheila that was Nanci Griffith on background of The Gypsy Life on John Gorka's CD "Temporary Road" Brian ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 21:56:05 +0100 From: "jenny*" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] random query Yo Sheila pondered: >WUMB played John Gorka's Gypsy Life this afternoon.....was that Lucika I >heard doing harmony in the background? It was SO divine. Funny you say that because... it's nanci griffith, but i have always thought that it sounded soooo like the doc, she sings on the album too, though. It's beautiful, ain't it? SOmevbody taped that one song for me and i went out and bought more, the albums' called 'Temporary Road'. Nanci sings backup on some more on the album as does the doc... I think i'll just go and play that. jenny* I don't own any of >John's stuff (YET) so I can't check for myself....I was even impressed that I >recognized it as John, having only heard him live twice.... > >Peace, >Sheila >echoing Marilyn (WUMB's DJ) who simply said, after playing Jess Klein's new >song (Little White Dove)...."wow" > ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 18:00:06 EDT From: Fantine729@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] random query << Funny you say that because... it's nanci griffith, but i have always thought that it sounded soooo like the doc >> Thanks jenny*! I wavered between thinking it was the doc and thinking it wasn't. Nancy's oooooo's sound almost exactly like Lucy's. I haven't checked out Nanci yet, but two of my favorites, Pete and Maura Kennedy, toured with her for a while (and Pete was with Nanci long before hooking up with Maura). I'll add her to the ever-growing list :-) Peace, Sheila now accepting comments on Pete's hair....I'll add them to sharonG's. :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 23:19:37 +0100 From: "jenny*" Subject: [lucy-list] Nanci recommendations (MLC) Yo >I haven't checked out Nanci yet, but two of my favorites, Pete and Maura Kennedy, >toured with her for a while (and Pete was with Nanci long before hooking up >with Maura). I'll add her to the ever-growing list :-) Nanci always talks about Pete and Maura Kennedy.... i was thinking abotu what to recommend you to start your nancism. What does everybody think?? I'd say either the nice-and-contemplative-wtih-a-coupla-rockers album FLYER or maybe to go to a different nanci era, LITTLE LOVE AFFAIRS which the doc backed her up on in the 80s sometime. Then there are the really folky ones like ONCE IN A VERY BLUE MOON or POET IN MY WINDOW. Or you could try the hey-now-for-my-next-trick-i-will-be-a-pop-star album STORMS, which holds the most important song she ever wrote It's a Hard Life Wherever You Go. But whatver you do, don't start with DUSTBOWL. that's enough converting on the wrong list... jenny* ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 18:36:18 -0400 From: "Kristina Plath" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Nanci recommendations (MLC) >that's enough converting on the wrong list... Oooo noooo it isn't! I'd say either Flyer or One Fair Summer Evening. Thank you jenny* and Flyer for your recommendations. There are SO many CDs of Nanci's out there!! I'm used to being able to buy an artist's entire discography in one fell swoop....I don't that think that this is going to be possible here though! Unless I decide to forego textbooks this semester.... Any thoughts on either of the Other Voices albums? I know Pete played on those two and I might be more inclined to start there unless I heard from the experts that this wasn't a good idea. Thanks for indulging the no Lucy content!
