I've been lurking lately while enjoying a plethora of music this summer (and while dreading my newly formulated budget so that I can afford next summer!) If there were a paradise on earth, it'd be an amalgam of Falcon Ridge and the Rocky Folks Fest 24/7, 365 days a yr. Quick commentary of Lucy at the Rocky's fest... she had a full band with Duke Levine, Zev Katz & Ben Wittman ("sounds like a law firm, doesn't it?" ~LK ), and Buddy Miller came out to play/sing on *By Way of Sorrow*. Of course, they sounded fantastic. In retrospect, after thinking about it, I think the thing that made Lucy's set so great was the fact that she was blatantly having the time of her life -- and said so. It's always a joy to watch any professional do what they do well (from physics teachers to musicians, in my opinion), but when they emanate such pleasure in what they are doing while making it all seem so effortless -- "flow" if you will -- the result is magical. All in all, the band was fantabulous, I love the new songs (hadn't heard the "homeless" one yet), and Lucy's set was one of the highlights of my summer. (Also, the Nield's rocked, Emmylou Harris was wonderful, Cheryl's set was too funny, and I'm pleased to have discovered Peter Mayer... the one from Minnesota, not the one w/ Jimmy Buffet.) As for the Chicago Contingent getting on the road this fall, I fear that right now that last weekend in Sept - the first weekend in Oct is booked! Dar plays Chicago the last weekend in Sept, Emmylou the first weekend in Oct, I'm attempting to schedule a house concert that week AND Rosh Hashanah causes some folks inconvenience. :) But don't think I wouldn't consider rounding everyone up for a roadtrip! ~Kelli ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V2 #215 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
