I have never heard her do that one live in many, many shows, but I heard Eric Andersen perform it Sunday and was sitting there imagining Lucy singing it.>> I think that Lucy and Eric also did this song together during their co-billed show at Southgate House in Newport, Kentucky on March 22, 2000! I had introduced myself to Lucy at her Louisville (solo) show the night before, and she mentioned how excited she was to be performing with Eric again. Incidentally, Lucy did the full set of Irving Kaplansky tunes in Louisville. But the next night in Newport when someone requested either "The Pi Song" or "That's Mathematics", she politely refused and said, "No, we're not going there!"!! I might ask Lucy if she can do it when I see her in Massachusetts in October. Now for something *scary.* One the way to the Liz Queler-Seth Farber concert last night, Nancy was playing the Eric Andersen CD she got at the Panzer House Concert Sunday. "Eyes of the Immigrant" was playing and this outstanding voice was providing backing vocals. My initial reaction was "this woman is as good as Lucy and even sounds a little like her." Then I heard this little vocal riff in the harmony, and recognized that it was, in fact, Lucy. The liner notes confirmed it. It's amazing that a listener can pick through a song to one little vocal tone and instantly identify the singer. Great job, Lucy! Liz and Seth were great, but the concert was only 90 minutes. We left to get a sandwich and missed Cliff's one song. *Yarrrrgh* I could hear his voice echoing through Herndon, though. This little town hosts a one-day folk festival in the fall and John Gorka played there last year, if I recall correctly. I think it was raining and I didn't go. For all those who got the notice about the Eric Andersen concert in N.C., I would say go if you can. We heard him in Kerrville, but his subdued style gets kind of lost in a festival setting. He is much better in an intimate venue. Ditto the sentiments on Cliff Eberhardt. He is an incredible showman with deep insight, and possibly was the best faculty member on the 29th annual Kerrville Songwriting School staff. - --Jay ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V2 #205 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
