I have never heard her do that one live in many, many shows, but I heard Eric Andersen perform it Sunday and was sitting there imagining Lucy singing it. Here's another one: Last night, I heard Cliff Eberhardt sing his "Goodnight," which Lucy covered on "The Tide." Again, it was a first -- I'd seen Cliff two years straight in Kerrville, as well as with Lucy at the Tin Angel and at a house concert earlier this year. In all those shows, this was the first "Goodnight" performance. Although he got some requests for "Memphis" and even mentioned during his encore that Cry Cry Cry had recorded it, he closed with the old jazz tune "Makin' Whoopie." Cliff had a lot of good things to say about the "Summer's Night" concerts with Lucy, John Gorka and Cheryl Wheeler last weekend in Newport and Lowell, Mass. Both shows were sellouts. He's in Herndon, Va., this evening, sitting in with Liz Queler and Seth Farber in a free outdoor concert, and then off to Charlottesville with Liz for a show Friday. Hope everyone is having as musical of a summer as I am. - -- Jay Votel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2000 10:41:39 -0400 (EDT) From: Fantine729@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] No Lucy content... As you can imagine, it was one heck of an amazing rendition. That is the only time I am aware of her doing the song at a gig (at least in recent history). <>Although he got some requests for "Memphis" and even mentioned during his encore that Cry Cry Cry had recorded it, he closed with the old jazz tune "Makin' Whoopie.">> I'm surprised that Cliff didn't do Memphis. He just nails you with that song. The last time I saw him do it, a couple of us had to pick sharonG up off the floor and help her back to reality with a little bit of oxygen. Makin' Whoopie (at least Cliff's version of it) aint too shabby either.... <> I know that I've said this before, but if there is anyone on this List who doesn't know Cliff's work, you are missing something very special. In addition to the great catalogue of music that he has already recorded, Cliff is now doing a bunch of new material which is just fabulous. With Seth (a WIZARD on keyboards) and Liz (beautiful, beautiful voice) on stage with him, this gig should not be missed. The syncopated handclapping the three of them will do on Someone Like You (and if they don't do it, please request it!) will be worth the price of admission alone. Oh, I forgot, Friday's show is free isn't it? Even better....
