She opened with the fairly new "Must Have Done Something Great" song, rather than "Driving Home". They all sang backup for each other throughout the evening, and for the last song, they all joined in on "Handy House", with choreography that included squatting at the appropriate time. They all talked about what a great time they were having on this "tour" - a tour that opened last night in Newport, RI and ended tonight in Lowell. Lucy and Cliff compared it to the Cry Cry Cry tour, which Cliff called the "Born to be Mild" tour, especially when compared to the "On a Winter's/Summer's Night" tours he's been on with Cheryl and John where they pull into Betty Ford when it's over. Apparently Lucy, Richard and Dar actually sleep when they're on tour. For an encore, they sang "You've Really got a Hold On Me", led by Cliff. It was a great show. There are so many great festivals going on this summer! One is coming up next weekend in Northampton, MA and then I'm off to the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival. And then there's the Boston Folk Festival in September, and on and on. And Cheryl is playing at most of them! Can't wait. Thanks for listening. Carol * Lucy explained that, after they shared a few beers one time, Cheryl thought Lucyka Plansky was a more appropriate name for a folk singer. John referred to Lucy all evening as Lucyka. dont cry, you know the tears will do no good so dry our eyes oh they have told you life is hard misery from the start its dull, its slow its painful but i tell you life is sweet in spite of the misery there is so much more to be grateful natalie merchant LIFE is SWEET ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Aug 2000 08:30:35 +0100 From: "Jenny" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] guitars >jen* you are gonna have to ask her for it... ANybody? jenny* ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Aug 2000 14:17:28 EDT From: Pfleary@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] hello Hi, I just joined this list and thought I would introduce myself (although most of the posts I've read since signing up three days ago have been written by individuals I recognize from those other two lists I'm on). Anyway, my name is Peter, I'm 36 years old, married w/no kids (by choice), and live north of San Francisco just outside the small municipality of Sebastopol. I first became consciously aware of Lucy's presence in my life when I bought the Cry Cry Cry CD. I followed that up with Ten Year Night based on all the raving about it on the dar-list. I began to look into Lucy's background and realized that she was no newcomer to the world of acoustic music. Going through my Shawn Colvin, Nanci Griffith, Suzanne Vega and Dar Williams CD's I realized that I had been listening to Lucy for the past decade! No wonder her music seemed so warm and familiar. I first saw Lucy live at the 1999 Kate Wolf Festival here in Sebastopol. She was wonderful, needless to say, and the addition of John Gorka to her set, and her to his, only made it that much better. I saw her again that November at a house concert here in Sonoma County. Again she was fabulous and the setting was so sweet. I took a ton of photos that night, some of her solo, some of her with Nina Gerber and best of all, quite a few with her dad. If anyone is interested I would be glad to share them with you. I also saw her with Cry, Cry, Cry in Berkeley where Joan Baez showed up. I took some photos there as well but they were nowhere near as good as the ones from the house concert. I'm looking forward to seeing Lucy again this October at The Powerhouse right here in Sebastopol. The Powerhouse is a brew pub here in town that features live music. I'm actually a little worried that the venue may be too small, Richard Shindell just packed a church here in town. If you are thinking about coming from out of town, purchase advanced tickets! That's all for now. Looking forward to being a part of this list. I've never sent one of these notes before, but I saw this one and I wanted to jump in to vent my excitement. I was introduced to Lucy K's music last fall and have about worn out Ten Year Night since then. And like Carol here, I'm headed to the Folks Festival in Colorado in a couple of weeks. I'm so psyched to see Lucy Live! I'm a singer/songwriter myself and her lyrics really inspire me I can't wait to see her perform. Actually, I guess I'd be remiss if I failed to mention my website at www.brianperry.com. If you like Lucy's music you might like mine as well. Please excuse the shameless self-promo, but I figured that's one of the points of a grass roots list like this. See y'all in Colorado! Be good to you... That's the day I'm going, and unfortuntaly won't be able to stick around until Sunday because my dad is on a mission to drive back to California quickly. Even if she isn't playing, I'm super excited to go (i get to see full band nields, which i have never seen before, woohoo). Come say hi, I'll be the girl with her really bored looking dad. (i'm making him go with me). Oh and like Peter, I'll also be seeing Lucy at the Powerhouse in Sebastopol at the end of October. Should be fun. I get to ditch school for that one, so I can go early and hang out (my friend is the promoter).
