I hope to have things up and running by the beginning of next week (though truly, I'm not sure how long it takes....might be sooner, might be a bit later). In the meantime, as I try to get the word out, anyone interested can send an e-mail to JanglePoets@aol.com. I'm collecting names and e-mail addresses, and will transfer everyone once things are up at smoe. So far, we have a heady membership of...three :-) but heh, it's early yet! Don't forget to watch Lucy tomorrow morning between seven and 7:30 on CBS, or at least set your VCR!! And thanks for indulging my plug of the Jangle Poets! I've only seen them once (opening for Richard Shindell),but I bought all the albums that night and got them signed too!!! I think Maura thought I was crazy buying them all. I'm excited not only about seeing the discussion, but also about having, for once, an actual JUSTIFICATION for watching "Survivor": "No, I am not just killing an hour of my life watching random people on an island. I am amassing the appropriate background information to allow me to interpret all nuances of an upcoming conversation featuring the esteemed musician Lucy Kaplansky!" With this in mind, I'm hoping Lucy will also go on television to discuss some other shows that I'd like to be able to justify watching. How about some roundtables on, say, "7th Heaven," "Providence," and the occasional "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"? I would be quite happy if Lucy made this TV show discussion thing a second career... David Massengill's - On the Road to Fairfax County (Live David and Live Lucy have each brought the tears on) and Richard's - You Again (from Sparrows Point - 7 years and still tearing up) Cheers, Sue ps To anyone who's going....Have a wonderful time in Newport! We'll miss the Newport Fest by a few days but, we'll be "home" for a family fest and my birthday the following week! So, take a drink from a bubbla - have some clam cakes from Guido's - maybe even get a Del's Lemonade -take a ride on the Crescent Park Carousel. Just have fun! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Aug 2000 22:20:47 -0400 (EDT) From: "colorspace" Subject: [lucy-list] songs that make you crycrycry I can't help but add "If You Could See" by Lucy to your cry list. I've requested the song several times now at her gigs. It really made me cry when she played it on her piano. That nursing home song she sang at Makor made a bunch of us cry too! I also wanted to respond to the changing of gender in Down By The Water. It doesn't bother me at all when artists change the words.....especially Lucy! I actually prefer darling than Corrinna. Maybe I can relate to darling more than I can Corrinna. I've never heard her sing the song without CryCryCry. Can't wait to see her tomorrow morning.
