YO LUCY well i will get to HOW DOC dazzled falcon ridge and i was there to see it but first MAKOR i have been through the trials and tribualtions of MAKOR from the first LK show with a coverage charge of 10.. to 3.00 waters and 3.50 sodas the venue is new.. but from the first call for reservations to being the FIRST there and the last seated and when i addressed the inequity with the man who was booking the place he shrugged off a party of 15..that is 15 people at 14 dollars a head and subsquent.. food and drinks.. we were a 500 dollar party minimun .. and that is without repeat most stayed for show 2 and we appeared and will appear for LUCY.. my personal opinion is this guy sees me all the time, knew that Lucy's list pre falcon ridge would be there, cuz i spoke to him twice and in person 2x before this event.. i knew the party was sizable we arrived early and were escorted to wait in the bar and then were at teh back of the line to enter the room when i address this the hostess sympathized and the booked blew me off knowing the party i was with ... mekor suffers from growing pains sure but alan pepper will squash him and the bottom line will prevail if he continues to ignore basic business concerns.. i was at the two lucy shows where people were all over the floor.. and SRO was the call for the day... i have seen her each time she plays there and that is for HER that i go there.. i ran for bracelets for show 2 and were all were squeezed in one table it the front.. in my opinion this venue is attempting to be something it isnt... The blue note.. we were called up on taking pix after rick and richard okayed it because we hadnt cleared it with the venue and for hte second show " clearing it wiht the venue was Lucy and richard" again. the man who runs the club has to remember that the people who support the arts are ones who spend money no we were not makor members and NO we are not there for all their activities.. if he wants to cater to that MAKOR cliental fine, make it member only shows.. he cant have it both ways as for LUCY WHAT great two different shows... thanks DOC.. for a great night and then we were off to falcon ridge... sharonG ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Jul 2000 20:53:25 EDT From: Sdgold60@aol.com Subject: [lucy-list] sing your song for me with camp dar seated right UP front , i mean with all the community camped in the front tarps..shindell was on and then a hush a special guest.. in a cream colored sun dress with little red flowers she stepped on to the stage and the CROWD went wild... she stepped to the mike like babe ruth at the plate and those first notes were sweet.. she looked great sounded great and then after her richard songs, she was reported being seen at her own workshop preformance. i searched for her and NO lucy .... then sunday am.. i see her and dar walking up the hill to the workshop with richard, cliff, jeff lang, mary gauchier and the paperboys- i say hi and i am off for coffee.. we had doc in the hippy festival pants.. and she had great hair as it was humid.. even Gorka said Lucy you have great festival hair.. well C3 reunited for a round. Lucy was the Queen of Falcon Ridge. She was everywhere and there was no way that you could overdose. Beginning at 10:00 am, Lucy, Dar and Richard sang Cry3 material on a workshop stage. Then Lucy sang her "dear friend" Cliff's "Goodnight" with Cliff playing along with her. Then Lucy (and Dar and John Gorka) took turns coming up to join Cliff for songs at his mainstage appearance. Then Richard (on Ten Year Night and Scorpion) and John (on Promise Me) joined Lucy onstage. Then Lucy and Richard joined John for his mainstage gig. I'm telling you, it was really pretty unbelievable to watch all of this collaboration. And Lucy, oh my, was Lucy having a ball. She was smiling away and bouncing up and down and singing her heart out. She sounded just beautiful and the crowd just ate her up. I was sitting with a group of about a dozen people (all who have seen Lucy at least a few times) and all of us were blown away. Lucy spoke to this huge audience that was spread across a meadow as if we were all in some club. She managed to maintain the grace and charm that she exudes at her club gigs, and she somehow managed to come across with the same intimacy that she always brings to those gigs. I have seen just those qualities vanish from quite a few performers at past Falcon Ridge mainstage appearances. Lucy's set was too short (even though it was a full 45 minutes long just like everyone else's) and the sound was very good (but not quite perfect). But vocally, Lucy was just perfect. This was one of the strongest sets that I have ever seen her do. She was just totally there. Just totally. I have heard Lucy sing Ten Year Night dozens of times, and this rendition was one of the best yet. It is incredible to me that after hearing her sing this song for over three years now I still feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when she performs it. Scorpion was perfect. Turn the Lights Back On (dedicated to Meg Griffin and performed without breaking a string) was spot on. Promise Me (with Gorka's harmony) was unearthly. The whole set was just brilliant. A number of my very musically knowledgeable and sophisticated friends haven't gone to Falcon Ridge every year because they have maintained that we in the Northeast get to see all of these great performers on a regular basis at venues close to home. So, the logic goes, why go all the way up to the Berkshires to sit in a crowded field to do what you can more comfortably do closer to home? Ignoring all of the things that go on at FRFF away from the stages (which is an awful lot to ignore), anyone who had the privilege to sit and listen to Lucy individually and hear her harmonize with Dar and Cliff and Richard and John knows that such logic is specious. It was truly a special experience.
