However, I forget which one is the prequel.... << Think Lucy's "The Thief" was angry and bitter? The other nite at The Brokerage on Long Island she did a song she wrote years ago but never recorded called "Role Model" and it is the meanest, nastiest little ditty I've ever heard her do. Man, she had it out for somebody when she wrote it but I'm not going to venture a guess who. Lucy actually did Mary Magdalene too--a request fromt he audience--and she did it in that same percussive style Rong was referring to on the RS List. I still love the way she sings it, but all she does is strum it and it doesn't sound nearly as "sweet" as when Richard plays it and she sings it. Lucy also said that she was one of the women picked to be on a Greg Brown tribute album by all female singers. She tried out "Small Dark Movie Of Your LIfe" but I don't think that's the Greg Brown song she should do and told her so. I'd like to see her do "Why Don't You Just Go Home" from Slant Six MInd. She said she'd give it a listen. Here's an interesting tidbit I picked up: Neither Richard nor Lucy are on Dar's new record. Not at all. Nada. Zilch. Niente. And when I asked Lucy if she'd heard Dar's new record she said: "No...have you?" Hmmmm. To be continued. Well trips to Virgin and HMV still reveal the response "who?" even if I do a Mrs Kaplansky and put the CD's at the front. What promoters are "going yahwesky"?? (what does that mean??) I'd be very surprised if the Clyde Auditorium (The Armadillo) was used because its pretty big. I still plug her constantly but you have to remember that a lot of the prospective audience don't listen to Radio 2. Its still seen as old peoples radio. We'll keep the fingers crossed though. It reminded me a little bit of the Towne Crier in Pawling, NY. Lucy was nothing short of superb, and the show rates my up there with the 03.12.2000 show at the Mansion in Middletown, NY. It was great meeting Jeff, his wife, and their daughter Sarah. Nice to see the rest of the Lucy posse to. Claire (the redhead), where were you? Hey Sharon, weren't the french fries great?! For those keeping score at home, here was the setlist: He Thinks I Still Care One Good Reason End Of The Day Don't Mind Me (Play Your Song For Me) Broken Things Ten Year Night Small Dark Movie In Your Life (First time played) You're My Role Model For Once In Your Life Carey Five In The Morning Turn The Lights Back On By Way Of Sorrow That's Mathematics A Song About Pi Nowhere (Lucy said she's still unsure about the title of this track). Is about self mutilation, or women in porn? I'm not sure. Scorpion E: Promise Me E: The Ballad Of Mary Magdelene Lucy was very comfortable, and her rendition of "Small Dark Movie" was a winner. Each time I see her, I discover something new. It could be a new song like "Nowhere" which makes me feel chills, or a new vocal nuance. The nuance was noticeable in "The Ballad Of Mary Magdelene. It was also nice to hear "For Once In Your Life" again as it seems to have been dropped from recent shows. My local paper (Times Herald Record) had a nice article about Lucy in the Friday "Go" section. I'm not sure if it's online, but it promoted Lucy's show at the Towne Crier on Sunday. If I can escape family obligations early, I should be there. Anyone else going to the Jill Sobule show at the Turning Point on Tuesday evening? I've never seen her before, but it should be fun. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000 00:32:15 -0400 From: "Martha P.
