First of all, if there is a better folk venue than the OTSFM, I would be really impressed. It's a mini Carnigee Hall. The MC got up to introduce Richard and he, of course, said to turn off your cell phones and pagers and then offered to take anybody who wanted to visit during the performance across the street to a coffee house for a latte. "No Talking during the artist's performance out of respect to he or she and to the people that have come to see the artist." I really liked that...I've been to so many places where people are just talking as if they were at home in their living room. It has always boggled my mind. The seats are of theater quality and very comfortable. You can bring food and drink into the hall with no problem. It is the right mix of formality and comfort to see someone you enjoy. The Kennedy's opened for RS and they were pretty good...his guitar playing was really good on some things and a few of their songs were also very good. They were a nice opener for RS, I thought. Richard was introduced by the MC and Chicago Folk DJ as a genius. This is my second time hearing Richard Shindell and I would say that between his voice, interpretive style and songwriting that he is truly special. I can see why he and Lucy are such a deadly combo. He had Radislov with him and all I can say is that RS totally mesmerized the audience. He had the Kennedy's join him at the end and they blasted several songs that were great music. I would give RS five stars for his concert...the right mix of singing, stage presence and great entertaining. If he's really headed for Argentina, I know he will be missed by those of us who enjoy him. I generally like female singers best but I would never miss an opportunity to see RS. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 17:09:05 -0700 From: ptpower@juno.com Subject: [lucy-list] Me and Mary Gauthier Just thought I'd send out one last reminder about tomorrow night's (Wednesday, May 24 -- 7:30PM) concert at Creole Gallery in Lansing's Old Town featuring Mary Gauthier (go-SHAY) and -- as opening performer -- me! I'm anticipating doing twenty minutes of mostly original material before Mary takes the stage. My friend, Brett Hartenbach, is planning on accompanying me on guitar -- he alone is worth the price of admission. If you need directions, feel free to send me a note. If you'd like more info on the Creole and its upcoming performances or art exhibits, visit their website at http://lansing.com/creolegallery. Or e-mail mailto:creolegallery@aol.com. Hope to see you.
