Long awaited! It was the interview footage which was most endearing to me.....Lucy really seemed relaxed and poised and confident and genuinely WARM. I mean it, true warmth emanating from my television set! Frequently, when you see her or talk to her after a gig, she is all wound up (as anyone would tend to be who takes on the roles of manager and roadie as well as performer). You have to hang out for awhile to see her settle into her relaxed state. After watching the interview footage, you just want to cuddle up next to her with a cup of coffee and chat about your respective life journeys. (Don't worry, Lucy, if I ever get that chance, I'll spare you mine!) Also, it was clear that her Mom and Dad helped out more than by just showing-up for the Denver concert filming--there was the most marvelous collection of pictures of Lucy from early childhood on which further endeared her to me, plus pictures from the Fast Folk era. I agree with Richard about the sparse production. It was clearly not as glossy as a lot of stuff one sees on TV these days! (It almost has a cable access sort of feel to it.) But for those of you whose favorite way to see Lucy (was) solo, in small coffeehouses, the intimacy will be quite refreshing. It's really ALL ABOUT LUCY, beginning to end. No stellar back-up musicians, fancy lighting, whistling fans, or covering other peoples' tunes. You do not even see (or hear) her interviewer. Her dad was a hoot, I must say, but he didn't use the opportunity to steal the show from the daughter he is so obviously proud of. An announcement: For those listers unable to do FRFF this summer (and especially those of us going), how about gathering for a Lucy send-off at the Makor on the night before, July 19th? It's just by Central Park a couple blocks from WFUV/Fordham University. The more, the merrier, for sure! It's SharonG's idea. And it will give me more new names to confuse and forget later! With the Lucy, Dar, and Richard lists all converging for one weekend, I may have to sign up for some Dale Carnegie course in name recall in order to keep it all straight! Lauderdale, January 2000) - think somebody could put a bug in her ear I'd love to hear Love is the Ride? :-) I'll see some of you in Noo Yawk, Noo Yawk for Falcon Ridge, if not before - start spreading the news!
