At first they played "End of the Day" but more recently "One Good Reason" has been popping up every week or so. Actually, its thanks to the ABC that I found Lucy. I thought "End of the Day" was fantastic. Finally, an announcer mentioned the singer and the quest for the CD was on. My initial search was in vain ...all the music stores in Sydney are franchises of large chains and only ever seem to stock 'mainstream' labels. (This of course, confirming my long held belief that Australian society is fastening its pace towards becoming the world's first mutant global culture - a fact that I have no doubt will be proven during the Sydney Olympics). Eventually I found the CD as an import at the ABC Shop ...and the world became a better place. A few weeks later, I was in the 'Easy Listening' of Sydney's biggest music shop (HMV) looking for my first Woody Guthrie CD purchase when there she was! Lucy ...under AMERICAN FOLK!! This in a shop that puts Shawn Colvin (goddess) under Rock in the general section!?? So I ask you - what is all this classification rubbish??? Why don't they just put everything in alphabetical order ... Anyhow, long live the ABC www.abc.net.au. Check out their "ABC Airplay" album in the shop - it has Guy Clark singing "The Cape" which has to be one of the best songs EVER written. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-lucy-list@smoe.org [mailto:owner-lucy-list@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Paul Castle Sent: Friday, 5 May 2000 6:33 To: Lucy List Subject: [lucy-list] End of the Day - "May the 4th be with you" Apologies if this has been mentioned before (I'm on digest), but I recorded last nights weekly folk show on BBC Radio 2 - the main (only) UK 'National' folk show, presented by Mike Harding. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 May 2000 19:31:53 +1000 From: "Michael Beaumont" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] End of the Day - "May the 4th be with you" Alison, if you are free on wednesday nights you can tune in to my radio show on fm91.5 from 7 to 9. Mind you if you live in a room and kitchen in the Gorbals it could prove rather costly! :-) I will stick my my neck out and suggest she won't play for 15 quid and a fish supper. The advantage is that this is "free money" on a day that would otherwise be spent spending it. :) If there is a supportive local radio station that really helps. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 6 May 2000 23:45:58 +0100 From: "Dave McKay" Subject: [lucy-list] Folk Presenting ...
