That's twice I've come across Lucy singing 'End of the Day' on BBC daytime national UK radio. Looks like she could have a hit on her hands over here. Hope she follows it up. I'd love to see her fill The Albert Hall. Paul PS Does anyone know "who" and "which" Bleecker Street bar? We are going to see she and Bruce Cockburn at Ravina (Highland Park, Il) in June, I believe. My first reaction when I saw her on the bill was that it was odd for someone that far removed from anything current to be included. Now, we have much to look forward to thanks to your heads up. wbe ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2000 15:02:41 -0500 From: Timothy Bruce Subject: [lucy-list] Janis Ian I had similar thoughts about Janis Ian on the Falcon Ridge bill this summer as I only knew her from her "Between the Lines" and "At Seventeen" days. I suspected it was kind of a "lifetime acheivment award" sort of thing...... What a pleasure it was then to pull a copy of her "Hunger" (1998?) out of the local public library and hear such a fresh and powerful bunch of songs! I have since bought TWO of her CD's ("Bob? and the FBI" - 2000 and Between the Lines - 1975) and now feel properly prepared for Friday Evening Song Swap at FRFF with John Gorka, Patty Larkin, Ms. Ian and the Nields Sisters. Apparently some bad luck and/or bad financial advice caused her to lose out on whatever financial gains she had made early in her career and so she is now forced to continue to write and perform great stuff. Works for me! It must be true (in the words of the almighty New-Jersey-Yorker David Byrne) that the best art results if you "Stay Hungry". ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2000 15:18:58 PDT From: "sharon g" Subject: [lucy-list] wrong bar and janis ian i tried to get a mail thru from work that seems not to be around about screwing up the TYN bar -Gerdes folkcity with the unnamed bleecker street bar... cuz I heard TYN on my way to work today..as I was driving 60 on the highway... this new janis ian cd was recroded in her house...she has chet atkins and willie nelson on a track about Memphis being the delta of the blues a song about Emmylou's boots being better and her Mccarthy era protest song..and title track G-d and hte FBI.. i took didnt want to relive AT seventeen or anything that brought be back to society's child and I have avoided Janis Ian like the plague... and dreaded reliving my adolescence at falcon ridge.. this cd grooves and it kinda twangy as she lives and writes in nashville... also has anyone noticed Slaid cleaves is Kelly Willis in drag... what is about austin that makes me want to move there.... sharonG ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of lucy-list-digest V2 #110 ******************************* This has been a posting from the Lucy Kaplansky mail list digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe lucy-list-digest" in the body of the message
