Well, I went through the same motions earlier this year when Lucy first mentioned that this show was being produced.....Same response from our local PBS affiliate Channel 2 about not showing the series. I took the extraordinary step of actually ordering it by e-mail a day or two ago. I got a quick e-mail back saying that they were still waiting for the sleeves to come back from the printer. Anyway, I expect I shall be seeing it in a week or so. This is purely a momento for the fans and a Lucy promotional tool but, unless Lucy says it's OK in these pages or in-person, I might feel a bit guilty about knocking off and mailing copies of it for others like myself caught in the "black-out" areas. (Guilt alone wouldn't stop me though if someone persistently begged, off-list!). I am still reeling about the "total" Lucy blackout here--she fills-up every room she plays in within 80 miles of here (in the past year and a half, that's been like 200 and 200 (small, out of town shows) and 500 (city shows) with about 1200 for Cry Cry Cry. Now there's no show scheduled yet even into the next year! And when I say "black-out" I do not mean it in the same sense as you lucky Nordeasterners so. I mean NO SHOW WITHIN 600 miles all year! Yesterday while driving on the interstate I saw a bumper sticker that said "Falcon Ridge Middle School--Student of the Month" I wonder if I could get genuine Falcon Ridge sportswear for my vacation this summer....wouldn't that be a HOOT! Middle School, huh? I hope they have a size that fits me!! On another Falcon Ridge track, I feel that The Three Criers are now trying to bring some closure to the Cry Cry Cry project and are not going to bill themselves anymore as a group. In fact, I can envision a situation in which Lucy, Dar, and Richard all go to Falcon Ridge intent upon doing only their own shows and promoting their new works, (which I am sure have been fully consuming them lately). I would imagine that the many fine volunteers at FRFF would not want to be too presumptuous to bill CCC or put them on the schedule without their blessing, but don'tcha think The Criers will find it positively irresistible once they are all three together again, hanging out at the same three-day festival? So would someone in the upper volunteer ranks at FRFF please try to insert enough "slop" in the schedule to enable The Three Criers to get a reunion set in on the mainstage, even if the individual artists at this point may not be planning on it (or are in some sort of psychological 'denial' phase)? Otherwise, we'll have to kidnap them all and bring them to "Camp Camp Camp" (Camp Dar) in chains! I've emailed the Artist's Profile people asking them if they have a list of PBS stations that are airing the show; I'll report back here when I get a reply. I've also asked if the Lucy video is currently available. I called their 800 ordering number, but it's just a recording. The Eighth Step is also a wonderful venue -- as I from Albany originally can attest. Any other Capital District folk on the list? Anyone here go to the show? If I recall correctly, I have heard Lucy tell a story about being on stage with Greg and being shocked when he joined in on the chorus of Ten Year Night. The point of her story was really that it was a high compliment to have him sing her song, and it was of course told in that amazingly humble way that Lucy tells such stories. True, Greg does not have the smoothest voice for harmony, and he may not be my first choice to sing with Lucy, but the guy is just a brilliant monster of a talent. (SG--what is scary about him?) Sharon finished with: <> Is there any doubt? Lucy will rock the place and knock people over, and then there will be this wonderful roar from the audience as she tries to leave the stage.... By the way, has anyone noticed Sharon's spelling, spacing, capitalization and punctuation lately? I think that she is improving markedly. <> Harvey (who not only has no trouble reading Sharon's posts but wouldn't trade either her or her wonderful posts for anything) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 23:55:16 EDT From: SpecGlobal@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] lucy and PBS In a message dated 04/12/2000 6:27:12 PM Eastern Daylight Time, sdgold60@hotmail.com writes: << so what do we make of this...... >> I tried to find a PBS station around the NY/NJ/CT area that listed the show but came up empty. I sent emails to WNET and WLIW (which airs Austin City Limits at the generally inconvenient time of midnight on Wednesdays) asking about the show and pointing out the general dearth of programming related to acoustic music and singer/songwriters. I think that emails at least demonstrate that there are viewers who are interested enough in seeing such programs that they take the time to communicate their views. As to Sharon's question, it can't possibly be that we uppity New York people don't have absolutely everything that there is in the world can it? Gee, I hope not. I mean, poor Norm is out there in Colorado with those stupid big mountains and clean air and all he gets to do is watch Lucy on TV tomorrow night while we all send emails to programming directors. Poor Norm will probably also have to go to the Rocky Mountain Festival and sit besides some running brook while he watches Lucy and her band. When we New Yorkers go to a Lucy show we have to fight for every parking space. Norm, I hope nobody is forcing you to ski out there also....
