Ani DiFranco (minus the screaming twelve year olds) In advance of Ani playing Falcon Ridge last year, the harbingers of doom were convinced that she would bring along a disruptive, disrespectful, immature audience who would ruin the festival for the rest of us. They were wrong. The audience was bigger than ever before, but those who had come to see Ani were, in the most part, friendly, appreciative of the other acts, and a joy to share blanket space with. Ani pitched her solo, acoustic set very sensibly, and there was very little screaming at all. Anybody want to post their *Nightmare* Festival guest list and location?! :-) Dave. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 08:36:48 EST From: Wblr4@aol.com Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Screaming 12YOs In a message dated 3/25/00 4:19:33 AM Central Standard Time, dgmckay@cwcom.net writes: << Anybody want to post their *Nightmare* Festival guest list and location?! :-) >> Not festival....but concerts... Anywhere where people talk during the music....drives me crazy and I'll never undersand it....it's rude and inconsiderate. Too bad that most smaller folk venues don't get enough ticket revenue to allow you to just have the music. Anytime where there is a bar it is almost a guarantee for unwanted noise to my way of thinking. wbe ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 09:14:00 -0500 From: "Kristina Plath" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] The "In-Your-Dreams" Folk Festival, 2000 - -- On Fri, 24 Mar 2000 21:20:52 witch baby wrote: >okay all, so i know this is from that beautiful nanci g. song on "flyer", >but what does it mean? anybody know? > >j. > >On Thu, 23 Mar 2000, Jennifer L. Let's see... Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Tom Jones (ARGRHAGRHAGHRGA!! DId anyone see the Saturday Night Live where he was playing the Lincoln Monument, and then two death rays came out of Lincoln's eyes and he blew up??) Barry Manilow... you get the idea. I felt old... >> In the Home News and Tribune the reporter said that Ani actually had to come out and reprimand the audience for their abominable behavior. What was that all about?!? If I were Ani D I would have a hell of a time performing with any enthusiasm after that happened. Happily, I've NEVER been to a concert where this kind of behavior occurred. I missed the first 5 mins as I was just reading my e-mails at 7pm. It was a great gig and the chat was very interesting especially the bit about how he got the Emmylou gig. Can't wait for the Buddy/Julie album to appear. The Brigadoon idea was a good idea. We in Scotland are over the moon about a "real " gig which is to take place in August. Emmylou, Steve Earle and the Dukes and Little Feat are to be doing an outdoor show. There are supposed to be 8 acts on the show. Please let Lucy be one of the 8. It is really exciting. With Emmylou's connections the possibilities are endless. If anyone knows anthing more about this gig shout it out loud. Lets not get too carried away with the Brigadoon gig. Fantasy is being taken a bit too far when we are bringing back the dead. It has to be almost tangible not impossible. When did Frank Sinatra sing our type of music? Here's my choice for what its worth. Shawn Colvin Lucy Dar Cliff Eberhardt Greg Trooper Buddy and Julie Miller Cry3 reunion Jeff Black Kate Rusby Steve Earle John Prine Iris Dement Natalie MacMaster Kim Richey Full sets from all acts so I can make my festival last a weekend. Okay I'm greedy but I hate to see support slots. Is this happening? Are you kidding? If so, do you know what you are doing to this gullible kid? Okay, now for my Festival. My festival would be...I am struggling between my native west end of glasgow soil and the countryside. If it were to be glasgow i'd choose...in front of the back entrance to the Royal Concert hall...the whole of Buchanan street would be cleared and we could pitch our tents on the concrete and sleep on the concert hall steps. Oh, and that new video thing they have on top of teh concert hall, we could use that. If it were the countryside then it would be at my house, a suitable combination of forestry and open-ness Now the line-up: Lucy Dar and stephanie winters Nanci G, her and james hooker on piano (at times) and a cellist Mary Chapin Tracy CHapman Joni Mitchell The igs, just them and two guitars, they would join nanci and mcc at points Stacey Earle because she is jsut festival material The Nieldies Odetta Joan Baez Natalie Merchant and a piano Steve Earle, the king...i bow... Eric Taylor John Gorka James Taylor (ahhhh....) ADam Duritz of teh counting crows. We will teach him guitar so he can accompany himself. he will play piano. John Prine Tom Russell Richard the tweak Schindell Ellis Paul Now have i missed anyone out? There are a bunch of people i wouldn't mind having alon for a few songs...bill morrisey, lucinda williams, carolyn hester, michael stipe... Now to the worst gig ever imaginable. I have lived it folks. The worst is being crammed by thousands of people at an rem concert, suddenly remembering you're claustrophobic (you lost track of that in the pre-concert excitement) turning blue cause your lungs are too low down and being hauled over the barriers, losing your right doc marten t-bar shoe in the process. jenny* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 22:46:45 -0000 From: "Jenny" Subject: Re: [lucy-list] Catie Curtis concert, London thanks for the catie review kay...you guys had a lot of fun. i wonder when she'll come and see me in glasgow. does anybody know where i can buy peter mulvey cds/jonatha brooke cds in glasgow??
